Looking into buying a new computer. Will a 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT run EverQuest II smoothly?

Here are the other computer specs

Operating System - Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium

Processor - AMD Athlon 64x2 5000 + dual core - 2.6GHz

Memory - 2GB DDR2-667MHz dual channel SDRAM (2x1024)

Graphics Card - 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT, TV - out, DVI-I, HDMI

Hard Drive - 250 GB 7200 rpm SATA 3GB/s hard drive

I'm just worried because I've had major glitching issues with a previous comp, some ATI 128mb card and I'd rather not re-live those days

Thanks

Hello,

From looking around the web at reviews of the 8500GT, I think you can expect about the same performance levels as the Nvidia 7600 series cards.

Basically the 8500 and 8600 cards are low entry cards for people who want DX10 compatibility with Vista, but don't want to pay tons of money.

Maybe look around for prices of the older 7000 series cards. You might find a cheaper price and get more performance.

Smoothly - sure, but not at the highest or 2nd highest settings. An e6600 or e6700 + a 8800 nvidia card will do the trick - your list won't, I am afraid. And if you will be using Vista, get 3 or 4GB of RAM, 2GB isn't enough.

Why do I need so much RAM for Vista?

I found a comp that uses an nVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT 256 mb video card. Would that be better Abronz?

I'm looking to run the game at the mid graphic level (very high/balanced), anything really at this point... i think the 256mb video card would be more efficient for that

Would I be better off getting XP? rather than vista?
