Well after exploring Neriak, talking to NPCs, admiring the scenery, and just being awestruck I came to notice something.

I hope this thread stays clean... Well as some of us know back when Neriak's development was a rumor, it was rumored that the new Race would be vampire, yet no one could figure out how the race would work. After all the basic dilemma... Vampire + Sunlight = Pile of Dust

However...after exploring Neriak...you obviously see the strong Dark Elvin presence (as it should be!), some Trolls and Ogres fulfilling their rightful roles under the Dark Elves, Undead (always been a part of Neriak to my knowledge), and lastly a VERY strong Vampire presence. Which irks me alittle as well as thrills me.

It irks me because I honestly love the various Vampire Models, and the Lore behind them. I played through the Bloodline Chronicles and loved every minute of it (minus the bugs in its questlines). So to see the Vampires living amongst the Dark Elves made alot of sense and is just cool.

However we got the Arasai as the new race, I admit they are cooler than I thought and I can tolerate them somewhat. But as alot of Loremongers will atest, the Arasai Lore just seems kind thrown together. And the Arasai presence in Neriak is pretty weak (thank the gods)...while they do make good fuel for The Forge of blue Flame they just don't fully fit in as well as the Vampires do.

So I think that ole Vampire rumor was indeed true...but I can't see any TRUELY reasonable way to make them playable. Unless SOE made it where they... 1. Vampire's recieved some charm or blessing from Cristanos that protects them from burning up in the sun. But while it protects them from death it weakens them while in Direct Sunlight like in CL/EL/etc...

2. Vampire had a "Mortal" Illusion of probably a Dark Elf, Human, (High Elf or Half Elf even?) they had to take on when in direct sunlight as well a minor stat hit. True this would involve having to spend extra time at Character Creation but I can't imagine many complaining

3. Vampires recieved a 10-20% Stat penalty when exposed to sunlight. THis is turn would sort out the "oh cool I'm a vampire" players from players that truely want to be one. IT'd definately would make the race unique haha...

However in the end...it truely wouldn't make sense. I thik having Vampires in Neriak is cool though, even the ones that attack you hoping to feed. It fits lore wise, and adds some serious character and diversity to the city.

I actually like the Arasai...but I can't shake it that Vampire was the original intention...honestly...I would have preferred Vampires...even if they suffered a major stat hit when exposed to the sun. They just seem to fit in more with Neriak...

Oh well... Lets discuss this. What is everyone elses opinion? Agree, Disagree, have other theories? I believe it'll be interesting to just hear other's thoughts on this...

They would have been either badly over-powered or badly under-powered, & either way it would have been ugly.

I do wish they'd chosen something other than another Faerie race. The fact that we have 3 Elf races & 1 Half Elf race doesn't mean we need multiple Fae races, too. But, whatever; despite my disappointment at another Faerie race, I think overall that the whole Neriak release has been topnotch.

If vampires were a race you'd get a ton of people named Lestat or variations lots of talk of sires and a cross blending of alot of anne rice novels into norrath. Im glad they didnt add vampires as a player race.

Do the vampires wandering around outside the crypt in Darklight Woods disappear during daylight hours? I haven't been near there during that part of the day yet.

Then again I haven't paid any attention to the day/night icon...well it's like there being light in Nektulos...it doesn't happen.

Does no one else find the vampire aspect of Neriak to be interesting?
