I have tried most of the classes in EQ2 (most of the good aligned classes that is). On a whim, I recently tried out a few of the evil counterparts on the test server. I have a low level brig to see how the other half lives. I have a low level assassin, zerker, and finally a shadowknight. Here is my humble personal opinion. This is all based on solo PvE experience since that is what I usually fall into:

Brig: Pretty similar to my swashbuckler at the moment but too low to tell

Assassin: Not able to deliver damage like my ranger. Having to be close in and usually stealthed really hurts...

Zerker: This is actually a good aligned dwarf I started just to compare to my Pally and Shadowknight. I am fairly impressed with this guy levelos 1-20. I know that is ealry but for a little guy with no healing abilities, he does pretty well for himself. Kind of all or nothing though.

Shadowknight: Wow! I may have just been won over to the dark side. Once again, I am still really low level (17) and have few adpet 1s even since this is test but this guy is pretty amazing. Nothing like life taps to wreak havoc on the enemy and heal yourself. The paladin and shadowknight really do not feel the same at all to me (unlike the swash and brig which seem very similar overall). This seems like a great class and even though I am no fan of dingy Freeport, I am pretty much sold on making me a shadowknight on AB as soon as I can free up a character slot. I am left with a couple of questions though:

1) Will this last or does the SK "goodness"...maybe I should say badness...last?

2) What other awesome evil classes have I missed and should try?

I know this is not an earth shattering post, but I just wanted to share my joy at finding a well rounded, fun class.

Thanks!

SKs are like fine wine -- They get better with age.

As stated they get better with fine wine. I would suggest getting adept 3's on your taunts as you level past 20.

Indeed they get better and better. I played one since launch on pve and was one of about 12 people who initially gave the class a shot on my server and first one to hit 50 ( pre dof era when 50 was the lvl cap ). Up till about lvl 30ish everyone always siad SK was some lame gimpy hybrid class. By 40 the guards and zerkers were going "[Removed for Content] why are you pulling aggro? How are you outdpsing us?" by the time I dinged 50 they all had SK alts they were grinding up It's easily one of the, if not the most, versatile class in both pve and pvp environment, solo or grouped.

Omg. If you are only 17 and liking it that much, prepare to be addicted. After hitting 26, you will be in wonderland. SKs just keep truckin all the way to 70, and just feels better and better. Unlike the rest of the classes I've played the sks never get any slow levels. They are just the same lovably perversed can of evil you will ever find all the way to 70.

I have to agree with Ulvhamne. If your enjoying your SK at those levels.. be prepared to be floored real soon. Ya havent even begun to feel the true power of being a ShadowKnight; heck ya still in ya "gimpy" levels. It only gets better our young squire... it only gets better....

Bah to all other posters. I don't want to see Dragonlord to have such hard-on when he hears.. It makes me sick to think of that..

Wait till you wade into a group of 8 or more meanies and fire off your AoE's and they are smacking you up big time and you fire off death march and then Tap veins to get healed to full and watch them fall around you.

it's a beautiful thing.

Yep SK imo opinion is the most fun class to play in this game. Like others have said it gets a lot better as you level up, however if you play on a pvp server be warned, it gets a lot more difficult to pvp as a SK as you go up in levels.

All accurate comments so far IMO. I've played SK as my main almost since launch and it does get better and better. I remember when I hit 58 and immediately scribed the Ad3 Tap Veins I had in my pack and said to myself "let's see how good this is." My jaw dropped.

Welcome to the dark side.

As has been said, SK's continue to get better. Our AA line is fabulous as well. You MUST have Reaver. No if's, and's, or but's. Get it. Every hostile spell that lands heals you for 2.5%. In addition, you can add a pretty massive life tap to your Harm Touch line. At lvl 70, it's close to 2k hp. So yeah, when I'm down in the red, getting beat by 7 or 8 baddies, I fire off Death March, HT, and Tap Veins, watch my health shoot back up close to 100%, and watch them fall to the left and to the right. It's a beatiful thing.

I started out my SK and got into the 20s but was more focused on my illu at the time. Once I got my sk into his high 30s low 40s I went nuts. I could not stop playing him. I had so much fun that I turned xp off for about 6 months just so I could own runneyeye and valdoon. I used to get pick up groups in RE when I was in my low 40s and would scare the crud out of them. I would pull whole rooms like it was nothing, knowing that I could probably solo it if everyone died. I think I have shortened the RL lives of many healers due to stress. And that was before I got all the T6 and T7 goodies like Death March and Tap Veins.....The class rocks and as long as you don't want to raid too badly it is wonderful. I still get lots of people complaining about not having a guardian tank for groups but if they don't like me as tank I will run along leapfrogging them and soloing what their group is taking.

I am currently 21 and I am having a blast. Usually it is hard for me to stay a class but I have been playing my Iksar SK nonstop. Their AOE's and heal procs are so nice. Now that I got Harm Touch and FD, the only time I really die is when I am out of power. I can't wait for the higher lvls.

This week I took on a duo of druids, 3 lvls my juniors with a gray swash. I couldnt outright kill them, but I had em both in the red and oop when 3 other blues dropped in on the fight. Of course, in t7 I guess its gonna be a bit tougher than t6, but seeing what the sk did in the video on the naggy forum, soloing duos and trios, Im not to scared.
