I've already got the pointer to EQ2i on one of the other threads, but just a couple of questions.

How well does it work and how do you use it in game ( maybe some tips on downloading as well)

Most importantly, does it work ok with windows vista?

It works fine with Windows Vista (even better than with XP, technically, since Vista includes .NET out of the box, rather than as an optional download).

Basically, you grab the installer from http://maps.eq2interface.com/ and install it to your EQ2 directory. If you have any interface addons, you'll have to move them into the EQ2Map directory. Then run the EQ2Map launcher to have it download all the maps for the zones.

To use it in game, just bring up your map with the M key as always, and your maps (or lack of maps in dungeons) will be replaced with ones filled in with little dots that show points of interest you can mouse over or click on to get a waypoint trail.

Interface addons? Basically I started playing the 7 day trial and 2 days in got hooked. Went out bought the EoF all in one boxed set, added the key to account and dowloaded the rest. Didn't even use the discs.

Does the download map cover all expansions and all maps?

Not every single map, but the vast majority. And most of the ones that are missing are the newer ones that you wont see right away anyway (like unrest). Interface Addons or Custom UIs are player made user interfaces (basically, all the crap on the screen) that changes from the default the way that information is fed to you. The Default UI is just too clunky for me and a lot of people, so you find a custom one you like, or if you know how you can make one, but thats beyond me. http://eq2interface.com/ Is the place to be to get all that stuff. Just look around at the UI's that actually get updated and find one you like. Think the 2 most popular (in my experience of askin people) are Profit Reborn and Fetish Nightfall.

Last question on the subject ( I hope ). I've been to the site to download the map program and there are 2 versions, auto and manual. What is the difference or the easiest to use?

With auto you basically use eq2maps to launch the game. You point it to the EQ2 folder and when you launch EQ2 maps it'll go thru, check for any maps you have that aren't up to date and DL them for you. After thats done it will automatically launch EQ2. Manual you have to manually update your new maps when you want them. Auto is clearly the way to be =)

A little confused here. Have downloaded EQ"map updater. When I run the prog, it displays a window which asks to select Everquest2.exe file. It has file of type Everquest2.exe. and is asking for file name, whatr should be in here?

My guess is that you'll have to navigate to the Everquest2.exe in your install directory and click on it. Why? Some people have more than one Everquest2.exe because they play on test and they copied their install directory to create a separate Test Server installation so that the test patcher doesn't overwrite the "live" server information. In that case they could have the EQ2maps launch either the test or live version of EQ2.

I've got it working somehow, don't know how though. I don't think I've got it quite right because I had to launch EQ2 seperately. I don't know if it's because I never used the discs, so am still launching the game from the Trial of the isle shortcut. Any ideas ?

To be honest it doesnt make a difference where you launch it from, once eq2maps has done its update, all your maps are good to go.

I use eq2maps, but never launch eq2 from there (just my personal preference, no real reason).
