I was wondering if anyone else found it strange/horrid that the DDL price of the new expansion is the same as the boxed version, AND it does not come with the base game and the other 2 expansions like the boxed version. I dont see why the DDL should be as high priced as the boxed version, it just does not make sense. I dunno, maybe it is just me.

Its because people do not pay attention! The boxed edition does not say: Everquest II: Echoes of FAydwer on it. It says: Everquest II and it has a bar on top that says: Includes the All new Echoes of Faydwer Expansion on top. and on back it says: Includes all expansions and base game. This is an all in one pack. (Like Everquest Titanium) The ddl says: Everquest II: Echoes of Faydwer. It does not say anywhere on it in any shape or form that it includes anything else at all besides Echoes Of faydwer, because its just Echoes of Faydwer. People make assumptions though... I think they should put on the ddl page (for people who make assumptions) (by an assumer, i mean someone who bought it thinking that it came with everything, because the did very little research): This Digital Download is only Echoes of Faydwer, and does not include anything else! You can go to the store and buy the Everquest II Retail box (the echoes of Faydwer themed one) to get the whole game!

I understand that, but my point was: why does the DDL, which contains just the expansion, cost the same as the full game with all the expansions? I got screwed over majorly by starting my account over a yr ago, and buying all the expansions after I bought the game. You would think they would help out people who have been paying them money for a while, but instead we kinda get screwed.

To bring more people in to the game faster, they provide the value packs. They should give us rewards, but no one gives old customers things. *points to cable companies and internet companies and credit card offers giving special pricing to new people* its just how the cookie crumbles. It costs the same so peopel buy it from stores, which would be better for Sony. Boxes on shelves are much easier to see at a store since they are tangible, and more random peopel will sumble upon it.

Actually, SOE make MORE money (not just by overpricing) form DDLs than they do from shelf boxes. There is no overhead with DDLs, whereas boxes cost packaging, shelf space, distribution, etc. I personally find it highly unfair that people who DDL get shafted not only in price but also in benefit (veteran rewards not being equal to, or are even nonexistant, those recieved buying shelf boxes). IMO, if they wanna bring more people outside the SOE lineup into they game, they should offer better package deals via DDL. It not only is becoming the way of the future but it's less hassle and SHOULD be more economical. It's definately more economical for SOE. Then maybe they could put more money into advertizing campaigns instead of wasting it on shelfing boxes.

It is better for them to have boxes on the shelves at stores though, its sort of been proven. One reason that EQ1 is realeasing the Everquest 8th anniversery addition (all expansions for 20$) is that they want something on shelves. They actually said that. It may be more economical to do digital downloads, but it ends up being better if they have it on shelves. If someone can pick up a box and read the back of it at the store, where all of the games are sitting by eachother, it boils down to how cool the box looks (if they have no clue about anything in either game) and what the box says on the back. When games go digital download only, they pretty much considered dead.

yah I agree that there should be something on the shelves,a nd a package deal should have some advantages, but to charge the exact same for a DDL version of the expansion as they do the whole game with every expansions is just asinine (or just mean )

Lets look at it another way... As an added bonus for leaving your house, and going to the store to buy a physical copy from the store, you get 2 free expansions, the base game, and the heli. You are right though, they probably should make the DDL cost less... maybe whatever they make off of the boxed version.

i sure hope they lower it soon. I have to buy it for me and my wife. And I dont see paying $80 total just for an expansion (atleast not this expansion, heck, it did not even raise the lvl cap)

It is beyond strange.

The expansion is only available for 39.99 no matter what format you choose. Why would I pay for software I already own? Or pay the same price for a d/l file with no hard backup provided by SOE? How long ago was this expansion released?

I for one will not buy this expansion until it is offered as a standalone product at a lower price. Heck, I bought Kingdom of the Sky for my gf, but she went back to WoW. So I decide to try an EQ title for the first time ever, and SOE's infamous marketing "genius" has reared its ugly head already. Do you people know what customer retention means?

GG SOE you win 1 months worth of my subscription fee.

/sigh

Well you dont really need a hard copy backup of EOF, because it is tied to your account, and the patcher will download it reasons to buy software you already own: It comes on 2 dvds instead of 10000000 cds. faster install coptor pet disks have all content together.
