I'm hoping that SOE will eventually give monks the ability to use one handed tai-chi style swords. These weapons though not as strong as two handers will give the monk a very good bonus to parry and defensive skills. They could update the AA tree to include these swords in a defensive manner. Just like a plate tank picks up a shield when they get ready to tank, a monk could switch to a tai-chi sword when they wish to take up tanking. Just like plate characters, we'll trade some damage for extra tankage.

Aw yeah maybe they can give us like a free-hand AA line too for those swords.

Back during beta and EQ2 launch, when all your equipment was based on skills rather than class, I questioned why we couldn't have certain special martial arts weapons that were only usable by those with the Martial Arts Skill. But nothing ever happened there....I held out hope that Fallen Dynasty might have something like that, but no dice.

In the meantime, while I find the overall adventuring experience in EQ2 about 10000 times more satisfying, I will point out that Vanguard Monks and Disciples get to use their own class of martial weaponry, including swords. As those swords are mostly of the tai-chi style and specificaly provide bonuses to parry, the OP of this thread might already know that....we don't want VG and EQ2 to be *exactly* the same, do we? There's plenty of martial swords out there that aren't quite that style

(p.s. Dual-wielding katanas is only suitable for superhero turtles, not people)

I actually didn't know that, I don't play Vanguard. I just like how real monks use Tai-Chi swords during forms practice and it all looks awesome and graceful. I don't think Monks should use Katana or large two handed swords, but Tai-Chi one handed swords makes perfect sense. It'll be more defensive than 2 handers and give Monks a little more options while fighting or tanking.

I do know the shaolin spade was added in Fallen Dynasty. The dw club from the crab has the spade look and I believe the bo staff of flowing blood has a similar look

I have forever wondered why SOE didnt give brawlers the ability to use swords. More than any other class in the game, including plate tanks, we should be able to wield them, especially the katanas. It's always seemed odd to me. But what can you do?

Yup, that too. I myself studied Tai Chi for a short time, and very specifically learned forms with a sword. Wayyy more fun than without the sword, IMO.

Well as long as we are discussing weapons i thought i would add my two cents...

[Removed for Content] is with batons, im sure most of you are aware of tonfas, batons would be sooooo much cooler if they had us use them how they're supposed to be used, instead of like knight sticks, i mean come on we're monks, not modern day policemen. For those of you that don't know what I'm talking about, the tonfa looks almost exactly like a police baton, but the perpindicular handle actually spins on the shaft, (assuming police batons don't) and is typically held by this handle, and used like a hand-to-hand weapon, punching ones opponent with the extended shaft to do more harm, it is also incredibly effective at blocking because the longer part of the shaft conviently is held along the outside of the users forearm, and operates almost like a shield. SoE could make some amazing and unique visual attacks for this weapon, and it looks exactly like the baton, and IMO is a much more likely weapon to see on a monk than a modern day knight stick. I'm not sure about the sword thing, because I think it is SoE's intent to keep monks to blunt and hand-to-hand weapons, that was how it worked in EQI, but I think it would be really cool. BTW the katana isn't limited to, but more or less a samurai weapon, as such, I think it would be inapporpriate for monks to wield them. Oh and what are these spades I'm hearing about?
