View Full Version : effects of tinkering and transmuting on new players

I have seen the  "Think of the noobs" statement posted so many times when people start talking about broker prices. As a new player (1 month) that has made over 50plat in his 1st month of playing, let me say that the tinkerers and transmuters (and gods) make things MUCH easier for new players. These tradeskills require so many items in all tiers that they will buy anything usefull to them at very high prices. Sure it means that any items you need will also cost you more, but if you are selling the things you dont need you will still be very far ahead in the long run. Since NPCs dont charge more based on what the players are doing, the luxury items end up costing new players much less (once you figure in inflation). We also are in the perfect position to supply the low level items since most high level players want nothing to do with the lower level zones (more effective to farm the higher level content to sell and buy the lower level). So please, stop complaining about how these things ruined the game and figure out how to take advantage of it for yourself. New players should not have a problem as long as they learn to use the broker. Honestly I think most people saying how bad it is are the ones that cause the issue in the first place (they are the ones looking to buy it all up at low prices to support their own skills, which is what is driving demand).

Help! the noobs are taking advantage of the veteran players! <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />  There are pros and cons to the way the system works but hey there were pros and cons to the system before lol.  I do agree tho, the new players (for some reason I hate the term noob) who see the market for what it is can make a killing.  I don't think you can expect it to last forever but enjoy it while its here ... oh and if you start a few tradeskillers you can sell the trash you find and use the money to buy stuff to make better gear and CAs and save/make even more coin.

<p>I'm sort of thinking that this is exactly what the devs intended with tinkering and transmuting--to shake up the economy so that new players who tried out the game would have good reason to stay.  </p><p>It's sort of amazing to me to see so many vets talking about how the new economy is crushing new players.  They insist on asking the question, "How is the new player going to advance a tinker with leaded loams selling for 50 silver each?"  Instead, the new players are asking, "Is it really true that I can walk directly to these ore nodes and harvest them without having to kill a single thing and put the loams on the broker for 50 silver each?"</p><p>New players aren't thinking about getting tinkering to 350.  They're thinking about getting basic equipment, which they can afford thanks to tinkering and transmuting.  Tinkering makes free raws more valuable than they used to be (even though the loam demands are being cut in half); and transmuting makes the garbage that one gets for completing noobie quests worth something to the vets who are trying to extract transmuting components for their own grind.  </p>

Indeed.  I'd believe 50 plat the way prices are, but 500?<img src="/smilies/2786c5c8e1a8be796fb2f726cca5a0fe.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

<p>I'm starting a new 'stick-it to the twink/rich newb" pricing campaign.  I know some of these treasured drops Im getting are too good to be transmutted.  Not pricing them around 6g(T2) but more like 12g.  Lot's of jewelry and nice treasured pieces.  I have yet to price attunables(non-treasured) high but if people want some of the nicer quality items, I'll sell those and buy back the crap to transmute.  There's really a difference between qualities of items through the tiers.  Some stuff is just better. </p><p>It's a new business model but I at least feel I know I have some good stuff.  I won't be leveling those twinks through those levels again anytime soon so the stuff can sit and get me 2 transmutable items for one drop through some wheeling and dealing.  </p>

<p>I am the one that usually is a critic to this thing . But in all honesty I can say that yes, there are benfits but since I'm rolling a transmuter............ I.......... um.........think it's a bad idea. YA thats the ticket! <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p>

I could see someone making 500p in a month if they started shortly after transmuting went in. It is my understanding that prices were really high for a while there (over 2x what they are now). The market is already cooling down. I have noticed a drop is the going price of many things used for tinkering and transmuting. Even with this, I only spend a small amount of time working on making money and made 50p .. If I was focused on this I think I would have come close to 500p. The real question here is how large is the actual market for somethings. The tinkerer supply market is getting reduced a bit (the lower materials might attract others which might balance the effect a bit). Edit - By "someone" I mean a new player. (but yah a vet would have been able too as well)
