probably been tons of posts but im just curious =) i started this game 2 days ago and i am a lvl 17 assassin. Are assassins good? it looked to be one of the more interesting classes to play besides a shadowknight. I know the whole twink thing depends on AA's and gear but what would the best pvp class be? im new so any input would be nice, thanks =)

It's not an easy answer because there are a lot of variables, including the ones youv'e listed, gear, quality of your combat arts/spells, level, AA's. But also there are different answers depending upon which tier you're in, whether you intend to solo and/or group, etc.

In all honesty, an Assassin is a fantastic PvP toon at every level, but they're not easy to play, and you need to know your strenghts and weaknesses. For instance, all Scouts solo well because they have Tracking, Stealth and Evac. Tracking means you can locate prey you can handle and get the jump on them using Stealth. You pick the time and location of the conflict, and usually get the first few hits before they realize what's happening. If you see a fight you're likely to lose (e.g. an orange con heading towards you, or 6 blue cons nearby), you can Stealth and sneak away, and if they see you anyway and pursue you, you have enough time to cast Evac and live to fight another day. With their tremendous burst DPS, chain armor, Tracking, Stealth, and Evac, Assassins are certainly in the top group of PvP'ers, especially in T6 and T7 (levels 50-70).

But, EQ2 PvP is designed to introduce variety, and so there's a bit of rock/paper/scissors so that everyone has classes they consider easy kills and other classes that usually dominate them. For Scouts, its the Tank classes that tend to outplay you. Assassin's tend to be wary of Monks and Berzerkers. Also, any healing class may be able to survive your burst DPS and beat you up until you hit about level 50 ... then they just don't stand a chance against you, lol. On the other hand, Tanks have problems with Healers at the lower tiers and sometimes mages at the higher tiers, because they can all root the Tank and nuke away whiel the Tank can't impose his mele DPS on them like he can on a Scout. Rangers are the anti-mage types.

Here are the top classes in my opinion, but they change depending upon what tier you're in. Top classes include: Rangers, Assassins, Swashbucklers, Brigands, Wardens, Furies, Monks, and Bruisers. If you're intending to solo PvP a lot, I'd definitely go with one of those 4 scouts for great DPS and all the nice tools (Tracking, Stealth, Evac, etc.). If you're only going to group PvP, all of those classes work well, plus a bunch of others, such as Mystics, Defilers, Berzerkers, Guardians, Paladins, Shadowknights, Illusionists, Coercers, and Warlocks. Of the Mage classes, the Conjuror and Necro are the best soloers, but it's hard to solo as a mage. So, if you like one particular class, you can do just fine in PvP, but try to determine what type of PvP you want first. If you want to be able to solo well and group PvP well, I'd recommend a scout, so your Assassin is quite good all around.

I realize it sounds kind of like a cop-out, but honestly, all of the classes have their niches ... but some are good at more than just a niche. For instance, Coercers can't solo until they're high level, because they just don't have the DPS. And at high levels everyone has curing potions so even then it's hard as a Coercer. But, in groups a Coercer does very well at any level. Mystics are similar because they have great wards, but not enough DPS to solo well. But in groups, they're awesome.

Assassins, they're probably in the top 5 in every PvP category, the Scout tools and their great burst DPS makes them excellent soloers. Those same tools are quite useful in groups. So, if you like the Assassin, stick with it, it's a very good PvP class. But, don't play it just because it's good ... just about any class can be good in group PvP.

Shadow Knights are good. Hell I get the crap beat out of me by them all the time. Harm Touch and all of its upgrades. You get to wear plate armor, you get heals, you get great AA lines. I really hate them.

In my opinion, a well geared brigand. them being a scout you get all those pvp advantages too such as evac/tracking/stealth/smuggle/etc. My 2nd choice would be what i play, a warden - druid. The only class that can kill me on a fair 1v1 with all timers up is a good brigand (that being brokensword, and it was a close fight at that).

There is no best PVP class. The best PVP class is the class you're best at playing. Even if you play a class everyone says is the best, and you're "Decent" with them, you're going to get your [Removed for Content] kicked by a troubadour who really knows their class well (since many say they're one of the worst).
