Wanna stop Gold Spamming? I've seen it stopped, or at least slowed down by using the chat filters already in the game... automatically filter out the website name... If they can't tell you where to buy their gold, they will stop /tell spamming you. all you get is [Asvixys Buy our gold at $#%^#$## we sell cheap!] and thats worthless to a spammer. You can also filter all mail that contains said word(s) and block it from being delivered. What are they gonna do, buy a new domain every few hours? Simple.

/YAWN....why start yet another thread on this same, tired old subject? As for your suggestion, you are poster #16,243,548,762,342 to suggest the very same thing.

great, so instead of seeing an advertisement clutter up the screen, we see a garbled mess.

BRILLIANT! /guinness

The spammers dont know you cant see it. So how exactly does that "slow them down"? Oh ya, that's right.... IT DOESN'T.

ibtl

Is it really that much of a bother? I dont know about you but it goes by pretty fast with all the general and guild chat going on. Just move on and ignore it already. Geeesh!!

While it was lost in the old forums, I once had a nice big post showing all the many flaws in any text based filter system. A text based filter will never work, and to even attempt one will require far more effort then any return.

Text filters = swiss cheese. Holes a plenty.

Other games slowed it down quite a bit by just permitting the sale of monetary and items out of game. But, then the in game economy becomes crippled. While I've seen this dead horse beaten many, many, many times already. I believe the only solution will be a joint effort with the other game companies to come up with a common solution such as legislature to make it illegal or whatever. The spammers (and exploiters for that matter) will always find a way around any in game mechanic/filter that is put in place. So, wishing upon a star that SoE will snuff it with a simple code tweak and we'll be spam/exploit free for the rest of our Norrrthian lives borders on ignorance.

what would work is when you place that person's name on your ignore list, it puts that entire account immediately on ignore, regardless if that toon gets deleted later. The account is now added. SCORE! It's a win - win situation because the spammers will then have to go out and purchase more account keys = more money for SOE and it drastically slows down the tells that players who dont want to see it.

Such a simple concept. shame it isn't being done.

Im no lawyer.. But I think gmworker is outside of the US or i'm almost sure this wouldnt even be an issue, as it could have been easily taken care of through legal matters. Unfortunately, when a botter spams you they are are not just sending you a tell but a bajilliondy people at once, most likely using a 3rd party program.
