I was under the impression that (within -/+ title range):

If you attack and kill a red you get fame.

If you attack a red and die, you lose fame.

If you are attacked my a grey and die, you lose fame.

If you are attacked by a grey and you kill them (they initiated the combat) you gain fame.

Now I have NEVER recieved fame from an attacking grey of any title range, but when I died to 20 greys the other day I lost fame.

Now yesterday, I attacked a red necro and lost, losing fame. Other days i have attacked reds, died, and not lost fame.

Im not quite sure what is wrong, but please fix it so that when i kill a bunch of greys i DO get fame from them OR that I DONT, either way, I liked to know where I stand in the scheme of things.

I agree it doesnt make since at times......

I have noticed not loosing fame to reds recently exp in your own city, seems very inconstistant.

While I have no proof, it may have to do with whether or not they were already in pvp combat. If the red is already in PvP combat and greys join in, and you kill the greys, I dont think you will get credit. Even though they attacked you before you attacked them, you had already been attacking someone.

Where as if a bunch of greys huddle around a red and attack, the red was not already in combat it seems fame/infamy is given to either side for the kill.

Just a thought.

Isn't there some kind of soft level cap on whether or not a red will game infamy from a grey? Maybe its 10 levels?

Another FYI for those of you wondernig.

I attacked a lvl 59 in Butcher Block yesterday. I was Destroyer, he was slayer.... was a pretty close fight considering he was 17 levels above me, got him almost to the red.

Anyway, I died, he took infamy, I lost Destroyer and am now a slayer.

Just an FYI

I'd like to request (if a dev happens to read this) an explaination from SOE of how the fame system really works. I can't think this would be any trade secret that can't be shared with the community.

Erronn

My take:

I think the fame system is very complex, more complex than we probably think.

I have been told, that your name color has a direct relationship with your fame level... so assuming this is correct (not saying it is just using it as an example) lets discuss it for a second..

Red = Close to next title? or does it mean that you get less fame for a fame kill?

There are several colors your name can be and these change depending on the group makeup or if your solo etc.

Ive seen:

Yellow

White

Orange

Pinkish (or light red if you will)

Red

I am going to try and do some tests. But I think the amount of fame you rec and get depends on more than just the level of the person you get/gave it to. Not sure what, maybe thier kill streak... or their KvD Ratio... there could be a lot of factors.

Its wrong though. the color of your name is a bug that stems from melee/ranged autoattack. If you are ranged autoattack, its orange (I think), and melee its red. If none at all, white (I think). when you switch between the different modes it sometimes gets stuck.

I just cant figure it out oh and one of my toons are flashing muticolored right now ?? so confusing.

This thread kinds proves my point.

NO ONE knows for sure what the deal is, and a lot of people have experinced situations where things that should happen don't or vice versa.

I wouldn't mind an official reponse of this subject, or for someone who can explain the ambiguity to post.
