View Full Version : Why do the gods have mobs to kill?

Repeatedly it's been said that they wouldn't just be mobs to kill. You can make the point that they're just avatars and not really the gods, but isn't that why they left in the first place? Mortals constantly killing them? If the Avatars are getting killed now, why would the gods continue their return? I'd think they'd just ditch on a permenant basis.

They're not just there to kill though. If you're a follower of brell and walk up to the avatar of below, you get a nice little 5 hour blessing.

Not sure what the others do.

The others also give a 5 hour blessing. Still, they show up as mobs that can be, and are now, killed. I doubt that a 5 hour blessing is going to stop them from being killed which, again, defies the logic of the reason that they left in the first place. Why are they going to stick around if they're just going to get killed, even in their avatar form.

As you well know, the mortals will never again be able to infringe upon the realms of the Gods. The Gods learned from their mistakes and did what they had to do in order to protect themselves. The Avatars are there though to show that the Gods do indeed still have a presence and can readily influence the world of Norrath through the Avatars.

Why can players attack the Avatars? Think of it as a religious war in a way... religious domination. The Avatar of Hate wants nothing more then to lessen the influences of the Avatar of Growth or whatever other faction that would oppose the rise of the followers of Hate... and vice versa. One PvE servers, there really is no other way to try to generate the concept of domination of one faction over another. The ability to take down an Avatar, theorhetically diminishing that God's presence and influence on Norrath is one of the ways this can be expressed.

Do people RP that way when they assemble a raid to take down one of the Avatars? guessing about 98% of that force couldn't care less about it and are only there for the gear.

Tunare doesn't look much different than she did in EQ1. I'm not sure where to see the rest

The developers explained this during Beta.

Gods in the Planes of Power = Divine Beings with Mortal bodies.

Avatars in Echoes of Faydwer = MORTALS BLESSED WITH DIVINE POWERS.

Big difference, people.

Mortals blessed with divine power and a transformation to look exactly like their god.

Yeah. Great. Why not actually put an ogre in there to be Rallos' avatar? And an elf for Tunare's? Dark elf for Innoruuk, Iksar for Cazic-Thule, Human Monk for Quellios, Dwarf for Brell, Erudite Wizard for Solusek Ro, ... you get the point anyway.

I think it would be cool if these avatars would attack any and all toons of opposing religions forcing a raid to vanquish them just so toons can travel near the area. seems kinda odd that they just stand there waiting to be dispatched.

To the OP: You're asking a bit much. You're asking SOE to be imaginative and not simply follow the routine of killing mobs for gain. Yes, with the gods there was the opportunity to do something fresh and interesting. But it's not gonna happen in EQ2 because that's a game that sticks to the tried and tested mob killing formula without much deviation.

Rallos Zek's Avatar is an Ogre, with some very cool armor and axe to match! I went and seen him myself a few weeks ago when he was up to get my 5hr buff. He is behind DFC in Zek when he comes to Norrath.

So where does Sol Ro hang out? I wouldn't mind a little 5 hour buffage.

In fact i was still able to talk to do quests associated w rallos zek throughout my characters career.

I agree, I'd like to be able to kill all the gods without penalty. It's seems like it would make killing any one god hard for a guild because I imagine there will always be a few that can't join in. Maybe key classes for some gods.

It's almost if that is the exact reason those penalties were put in. I sense a conspiracy. --Plague
