I am going to be starting a new character soon. It will be either a Wizard or a Warlock since I have never played either one of these classes. I am mainly a solo player. 95% of my play time is solo. My question is, which one of these two classes solo the best. I know most likely neither of them are very good at soloing, but which one would the best of the two.

It's a personal preference really.

I prefer Warlocks, but others like Wiz. What I like about the lock is the Absolution spells, which deal massive amounts of damage to the target encounter, which is great for solo play. I don't know if Wizzys have a target encounter spell. Both have AoE. Maybe someone can answer....do Wizzys have a target encounter spell? I like the target encounter rather than the AoE because you can kill all mobs that are linked without agroing the surrounding mobs.

Wizards have two really nice encounter DoTs, link them with Frigid Gift or the lower forms of the spell for massive dps. I use this combo in T7 raids and am currently parsing highest in the guild (well, me and this assassin fight for highest dps). I've never played a lock, but i do enjoy how well my wizard solo's. My roots are better too, i think.

Root-Nuke-Root-Nuke, rinse repeat. With locks they have great DotS and Group nukeage but their root isnt as long. Wizards have the uber 1 target nukes that'll killem fast.

warlocks do have great encounter dps, but also some great single target nukes around lvl 25-30 I got a master II upgrade of a nuke that did almost 1000 damage with 12sec recast... I thought that was pretty good... never played a wiz so I don't know how it would compare...

Warlocks also get a regenerating ward on their magi shielding through EoF AA. At level 70 with 10 points you'll be warding 530ish damage. Talked my lock friend into getting it the other day and I've barely had to heal her since.

But like the other guy said, it's personaly preference. As a lock you'll want to focus on groups of mobs (where they usually have down arrows), and you'll be bale to take em out quickly, but if you find an up arrow single, you will have more difficulty with it than a wizard probably would.

THey both get roots and stuns and the like, and the lock has single target nukes while the wiz has encounter stuff. So it's really a preference type of thing. I picked a lock cause I can summon a netherlord (which isn't that hot. About the same as my templar's unswerving hammer I guess.)

Ohh yeah, and if someone in your group is misbehaving, as a lock you can turn em into a toad or bat or something.

I have played both Wizard and Warlock to lvl70, imho on soloablity it is the wizards the win the race. The warlock is at its best with 3 or more targets in the mob, and the wizard does best with 1 target. So you just have to look at the targets and it becomes odvious that Wizards have more targets that they will be best at. If your going to grind out a level you will probaly do it on 1 or 2 target mobs and in that area Wizards are quicker at it then warlocks.

Now if you love going to TS and slaughtering a herd of deer in three seconds a Warlock is your man . But if your killing giants to level the wizard will get it done quicker. Now they are both fun and the difference is not huge. I have enjoyed them both.

BTW, Did I mention you need to plan on dieing a lot, and I mean ALOT.

I have one of each and my personal experience is that the warlock is a much stronger character, particularly for soloing which is how I play 95% of the time. Both are halflings so the only difference is class. I suggest warlock as your choice.

No matter what you choose I hope you have as much fun with your caster as I have with mine.
