Big props man.

Possibly some of the best solo fights ive seen on video. You are taking oranges and reds and very close fights, and that one part you went unconscious, and then came back alive to finish him off, was pretty exciting to watch.

My only advice is to try ulead studio for editing, there are lots of neat things u can do with it, and speed up some of the fight scenes and edit out all the running, and maybe use more upbeat music that conveys fighting.

But the actual pvp battles were sick.

The songs are not ideal (although I liked smooth criminal =)

You have no idea how much adrenalin was pumping on that one fight against the Pally, lol I screamed Yeahhhh! At the end of that one haha...it was a lot of fun. Poor Q's tho, cant be fun getting killed by Green/Grey con's....

Is Ulead free?

That was a pretty good pvp video - most of those fights were EXTREMELY close which was amazing! Great job on the fights, but the music was meh.

That video is seriously impressive. I'm 70 dirge but i rarely go out PvP, and almost never solo, but I really want some PvP armor so I'm gonna start as soon as i find a good sword and shield to use.

Would you care to discuss your dirge tactics? What kinds of enemies you fight, and what you avoid? How to fight most effectively?

Nice video. I'm curious, though. . . you can't be in just mastercrafted can you? You appear to be far too effective for that. I'll have to look your gear up on eq2players.

I was going for music with more meaning (the words tieing into what was going on) but as you mentioned, I think it failed =P better luck next

Quote "TheBramble": That video is seriously impressive.

Response by Killque: Once you realize the strenghts and weaknesses of a Drige, you will really begin to understand exactly how powerfuly they really are...

Arguably their best ability is to be able to cast a nuke song while moving... infact, without this, Dirge would be completely crippled in solo PvP. I will list a few of my tactics below.

The Ludias (Direct Nuke) and the Discante (Encoutner Nuke) Line: These are both castable on the run and have a very large range (25). This alows you to kite your opponent if able, casting on them as they chase you. As you can see in the video, the Ludia's does a signifigant amount of damage (ive crited for over 1200 in PvP, rare but it happens). I am spec'ed in AA to reduce cast time and increase crit chance (these buffs are AoE to group).

Sapping Shot Line: Stop your opponent dead in his tracks. With a bow attack double shot that (if both shots hit) roots your target. I have gone the EoF line on this and put 5 aas so far into it. It reduces the reuse time of this spell by almost 10 seconds. VERY helpful for runners and for kiting effectively (Explained below).

Garsin's Burial (Fear) Line: Another very useful spell in the vast tool belt of the dirge. This spell has gotten me more kills that would have otherwise fled that I can count. Fear an opponent off the dock, away from the zone line. It can even be used to crowd control. I will often times take on 2 even (or yellow) con opponents and use this to take one out of the battle for a duration. NOTE: This spell is easily broken if the opponent is hit. If in a group, be sure to use a Macro and explain this to them. If you try and fear them off of a dock and they get hit by your group member before they fall off, it will break and they get away. Some more great uses for this spell, Gets them to turn their back, crowd control on multi target encounters, prevent healers from healing, Fear opponents off of high places and let them fall to their death!, prevent zoners, prevent runners, prevent pets from helping (Mages are very easy for me to kill if this spell sticks appropriately up through the low 50s, Killed Joseph, the mage in the video just yesterday, REVENGE!) Engage a mage encounter by fearing his pet. Save your snare and root and if you notice the fear break, quickly snare then root it. Mages are nothing without their pets...

Verline's (Snare + Disease debuff) Line: This is your second most important spell and one that allows you to efficently kite just about any solo target. Do yourself a favor, and get the splitpaw add on pack. In the zone, there is a vendor who sells an upgrade of sorts to this spell. What this upgrade does is reduce the snare amount from 60% to 50something % but, it added additional time to the snare and has a 10% chance to root target for 10 seconds. Snare itself is fairly self explanitory, but try and keep it on your opponent at all times as almost all of your attacks are diseased based and that spell also debuffs their a substantial amount alowing you to do more damage.

Cheap Shot: The blessing to all Scout classes, an unresistable stun that alows you to freely manuver around your opponent. Dirge only have one backstab, and it alows flanking as well so it is very easy to get off. When kiting a dps class, root and snare them as often as possible, but any time your cheap shot is up, run in for the stun and push off all your close combat CA's while your safe from direct meele, then scoot back out of range before you get the beat down on you. Rinse and repeat as needed.

Debuffs, Daro's Doleful, Clara's Chaotic, Lanet's Agonizing will help emensely as they (at my lvl) decrease attack speed and DPS by 25, decrease str and agi by 81, and prevent auto attack (daze) for 7 seconds. Only two of the Dirge's debuffs are castable on the run and some have a recurring mana cost so becareful on how these are applied.

Stats:

As this was my first PvP Character after playing EQ for years, I noticed something signifigantly different (big suprise) about PvE and PvP. At every turn, I was nuked, rooted, snared, poisoned etc... I took a step back and though hard about PvP and all that it encompased. After a while, I realized one thing, Resists are king. If you think about it, every class has some Hot, cold, disease, poison, magic or mental type attack. And the cloth and some leather classes rely primarliy on these types of attacks. So why is it I thought, that everyone is so cought up in avoidance, str and mitigation... That answer could be aruged for years, but my thought is that they are not looking at the broad picture of pvp and are focusing on just the high and fast dps output of the meele classes. This leaves a whole lot of wanting, when they face off against a Illusionist or a wizard. Heck even healers primarily use hot, cold and disease attacks.

So in that light I decided I woud focus on resists. The majority of my gear and AA's are based off of that premise. Now I understand the important of balance and have not neglected my other stats completely, but I mainly focus on resists. Wisdom is the king of resists. Case and point, my Wisdom is 216, almost 40 points above my Int that is sitting at around 180. As a result, my resists are as follows:

Cold 1201

Heat 1841

Poison 1935

Disease 2143

Magic 1288

Divine 1381

Mental 1831

With resist gear on I can get my heat resist up close to 3200, however I still rarely flat out resist heat / cold damage based spells from Wizards etc. Even from even and blue cons. I am not sure if this is working as intended.

AA Line:

I suppose it goes without saying I went the WIS line in the Scout AA Tree. I have pionts down the entire tree 5/4/8/6/8. I am now working on the shield bash line, to add a stun and a knock back to my PvP repertoire.

In this line I get (the buff spells below are AoE to my group):

Wisdom stats

Harmonizing Shot (ranged attack that evades)

Incombat/OOC Run boost (12% boot to OOC and 6% In Combat)

Cast Time Reduction (4.7% Reducition in cast time)

7.5% Additional Chance to crit on, ranged, meele and heals

In the Dirge EoF Tree, I put points in to reduce reuse time of Sapping shot as well as my stealth.

Every spell I have (from lvl 1 to 42, that is upgradeable) is a Master 1 or 2. No Addept 3's or lower.

I have spent a lot of time at 42 and a lot of time in places like RE, Permafrost, etc and I have pretty much all fabled gear. Jboots, FBSS, Shiney Metallic Adorment 20% haste (yes i know they dont stack), Scaled skimitar and Frost shield, I have a very high incombat power and health regen (in the 20-30 tick range). I also have a 32 slot chest full of utility pieces, the BP and Leggings from RoV that have a use ability, Loads of potions and Totems, different gear for different encounters.

I currently only have 39aa's but I plan on having over 50 by the time I reach 44, where I will most likely reside for the rest of my carrer with this toon.

Hope that was semi informitive and not too long lol

Quote: Would you care to discuss your dirge tactics? What kinds of enemies you fight, and what you avoid? How to fight most effectively?

I pretty much stay away from certain Wizards (Lyila) and all healers that are not a blue con and I have a chance to get away when things enevidebly go the other way lol..

My most prized fight, was against a lvl 52 Destroyer Swashie out in Feerrott. I even had a mob add on me for that one.

I love the rush I get when fighting very very close fights.

I will admit, I die alot, but that is expected when you attack oranges and reds. My record is pretty crappy, 1494 kills and 349 deaths. Most however are solo, and as you see, I dont always go for greens =P

The reason for the song, however was that I was looking at him deciding if I should try him or not, etc.... words kinda fit... next time I will use some let the bodies hit the floor or something (overused song for pvp vids so ill find something else).

In other news, my RAID 5 lost 2 drives within 15 minutes (before I could rebuild the array from the frist failure) so I lost everything data wise.... about 48,000 mp3s down the drain =P plus all my other stuff, egads!
