<p>I am not sure why they made this forum change. I realize they want to make connections with other games, but I don't think all this down time was worth it.</p><p>You can no longer search on a name and check the posts from that name. They were able to restore some threads totally but not others -- why?</p><p>In short I think this was a waste of time and I don't see where it has added any functionality to the forums but I think we lost some.<img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> </p>

Wha happened to choosing our own avatars?! <img src="/smilies/c30b4198e0907b23b8246bdd52aa1c3c.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> I thought all the new forums got to choose their own.

<p>The reason it was done.</p><p>1) Money - Much Cheaper to maintain themselves.</p><p>2) Better Integration, things can easily be integrated with their internal billing system, EQ2Players and more.</p><p>3) Its their company and they can do as they like.</p>

The other thing is that they can add new features to the boards, so cool new/old features will be arriving soon.

<p>It is a bug, that is my guild. If you don't have a persona, you leech off others when you post. </p><p>Calmdown Shipwreck, they will add new features and fix bugs soon enough. (Hopefully starting with post count)</p>

This is actually something that came up in discussion on the now-defunct Vets' Lounge -- the reason is that now they have in-house control of the forums and forum systems, and it can all be much better adapted to their own needs now and in the future. As someone who is working very hard right now on a site design of her own, I symathize.  My site co-owner and I keep going back over whether to use certain pre-designed forums or whether to sink in up the elbows now in something more customized and delay our launch.

I truly miss the find all posts feature. Made it simple to keep track of threads I'd posted to. Also I have used the look up all posts option when I've thought I saw someone that posted what seemed to be a constant string of complaint posts to decide in my opinion if they had alegit gripe or were just doing more trolling.</p><p>Now maybe I'm just not familiar enough with the new board to find the features I am looking for. I didn't notice if there was an icon change to a thread on the list because I've only made posts to one thread and they were the last ones in it. </p><p>If the system doesn't log me out when I am inactive for a period of time, that'll be a big plus. Now if only Station Players could do the same. </p>

Just within the past day or so they've fixed quite a bit.  I imagine they will keep fixing what's broke and once done they will begin adding new features (old and new.)  That's typically how forum upgrades go.

Is this new forum based on phpBB? There are many features which remind me of phpBB..

Haha, it's a (slightly modified) phpBB indeed. I can't believe that a huge company like SOE switches to a (semi-)crappy open source board... (np @ double post.)

<p>Pretty sure it's actually JForum, which is Java-powered.  Java is notorious for not scaling well, and it's little surprise that the new boards have had all kinds of problems since they went live.  From what I've gleaned so far, the dev team is still trying to work out performance issues, which is why the more resource-intensive features (like email notifications for subscribed posts and new PMs) haven't been turned on yet.</p><p>I think phpBB might have been a better choice.  <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />  Some people think you get what you pay for, but I personally love open source software.  The people that use it and love it are the people that build it; doesn't get much better than that.</p>

Yeah, you're right -- sorry. However, JForum uses pretty much the same design template and board structure (profile, search options, private messages etc.) as phpBB.
