Ok,The biggest problem with furnature snapping to some invisible grid that is different than where I put it is the darned inconsistancy. Here's a great example.  After spending several hours on my non-existant staircase, I gave up on a spiral case and decided to use a landing and 2 straight stairs sets.  This is what I got making my landing.<img src="http://www.ishnar.net/images/uneven.jpg">See how the boxes are uneven at the top?  All I did was stack maple boxes 4 high, but each stack is a different height!  This is my problem with snap-to grid.  It is inconsistant.  A snap to grid should make it easier to make my stacks the same height, but it makes it nearly impossible.  I have yet to make 4 stacks of anything the same height, and I need about 8 of them. <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />Any ideas on circumventing the snap-to-grid?  I really hate how when I place my box, it shows green, then I place it, and it moves just enough to ruin everything.<div></div>

<DIV>Yea, i can spend hours and hours trying to align things, I actually want to know, where is this snap to grid thing?  I'd like to play with it.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I usually align things by EXPECTING them to move slightly when I place them, that way, when they move, they generally move into alignment.  Hope this helps.  <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

It makes the process longer.  But line it up how you want it and if it snaps out zone out and back in and it should be set the way you put it.

This may or may not help you, but I have used it before for a similar problem.  Hang a shelf ( I prefer long ornate) on your wall at the height you need minus your final layer of whatver... crates in your case..., get high enough (may require standing on a crate or two) that you can place a rough linen rug on the shelf.  This is a solid bottom rug, ie you can stand on it and not fall through.  When the rug is in place, remove your shelf.  This gets your objects off the floor which can have its own warp issues and leaves you only having to place one layer at just the right height, not multiple layers.<div></div>

<div align="left">Thank you.  My guildie actually gave me a maple bookcase and that made everything so much easier.  Instead of stacking 4-10 crates, I only needed 2 bookcases.  The cumulative stap-to-grid wasn't nearly such a big deal only stacking 2 items.</div><div></div>

Most rugs are not solid.  Of the ones that are solid, I prefer the rough linen rug (carpenter level 47).  It is the largest, so good choice for a loft project without hurting your item count any more than you need to.  Other rugs that are solid are the horned leather rug (carpenter level 67), antonican rug, canvas rug and embellished rug (these last two share the same graphic). One catch with these solid rugs is that they are invisible when looking at them from below.  That means for a loft  you first place them down to give you something solid to stand on, and then place any of the other non-solid rugs on top of them so they aren't see through when you look up at your new ceiling/your loft floor.<div></div>

<DIV>Ooo ok that should be fun to do =D and you can also get a bunch of freeport counters and use them as a border all around your loft =) looks nicer i dont have the pic i did of one because i moved into a bigger place =P never thought of using carpets =D i used tables/freeport counters</DIV>

<DIV>my other thread shows the effect.  Unfortunatly, you can still see the outline of the "solid" rugs from below.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I was originally going to do a loft in front and back, but the back loft worked out much better, and I'm already at 200/300 items, so I don't think my item count can handle 2 lofts.  Most people put the loft in the living room, but I like it the bedroom better. The smaller size makes the room feel very intimate, and it already has walls.  so I don't have to make them.  </DIV><p>Message Edited by Ishnar on <span class=date_text>01-24-2007</span> <span class=time_text>06:38 PM</span>
