It should be sufficiently easy to add since we are already using direct x from micro$oft to imply a small addition to the program we so greatly love. SPEECH!in eq1 it was allowed to take dictation input. but not output - so we used a program called EQwatcher (www.eqwatcher.com)that monitored our log files and read our tells and chats aloud to our ears! This is a feature i so desperately miss. it was lousy robotic voices. (but there are higher quality ones available for purchase online) but it was free and simple and would be a basic simple addition to everquest that would add back the life i miss from eq1. it doesnt have to be positional audio . or anything fancy.. just simple logfile text to speech conversion using microsofts directx text to speech api . and 3 choices to enable or disable for each - tells - guild - chat channels - (if it was built into eq2 we wouldnt need to have our logfiles on, causing lag and eating up more drive space)please and thank you soe

I like it...Although a lot would probably disagree with it being placed into a patch or what have you, it would be a neat feature for those who like to customise their character further. In a game called Operation Flashpoint, it had all the basic DX voices, and allowed you to adjust the pitch and tempo of these voices. Okay, it sounded a bit crummy, but yes, people could buy (or SOE could buy licenses for) new voices. So you're standing in game, you have your voice set to "HUMAN_M_3 - PITCH: 200%, TEMPO: 50%", which is sent along side the text, very easy, seeing as all you're doing is sending an additional few characters of code after what you say, i.e. : "HUMAN_M_3=200:T=50", so it wouldn't cause tremendous lag.But yeah, it all depends on how popular such a device would be. (ALthough I'm still a fan of the optional packs, as they allow people to download additional content at their leisure).

I've wanted my wife to play, but her vision is such that reading all of the text is not possible. Having a sound option would open up the game to her. So, here is my vote. Great idea!

yes yes wives that play eq and understand our addiction = better love lifes for all . yet another good reason to put it in.. though with direct x its kind of already there. .found that if i enable the speech portion of windows xp it sometimes works auto matically , hoping its not a result of a bug
