...what is up with this? http://eq2players.station.sony.com/en/player_swrankings_detailed.vm?action=CharacterAgg. getByRankSwide&rank=meleeHitRankSwide&type=HighestMeleeHit I see all the highest hits are by assassins. Is that with ONE hit, and if so how do they manage so much? Just wondering. At one point in time there was an unacknowledged bug with respect to vast differences in opponent mitigation as compared to the expected mitigation for a mob of your level (i.e. far less mitigation than an even con mob would have). Using a hard hitting attack on such a mob or character (in a duel) would provide surprisingly high damage numbers. In an attempt to get developer recognition of this issue and try to fix our high-hit boards I and some others tried to see how stupidly high we could get it. Alas the high hit numbers have never been removed from the charts although the 'bug' has been fixed. As a point of interest, if you hit higher than 2^16 you will find that the numbers displayed in your chat log and over the mobs head will be a very small number as the 16-bit value used to display these values will have wrapped around. When looking at eq2players, however, you will see the actual value. The current highest hit was achieved by dueling a level 3 character with zero mitigation who was seated with his back to me at the time of my Assassinate. I had a Defiler in group for further strength buffs. I imagine someone could have broken 100k if they tried hard enough, but that wasn't really the point.

And because Sony hasn't reset the highest melee hit charts, people who are ignorant to our class wonder what we're complaining about when all they see is assassins in the top ten. What they don't realize is, as Ekard pointed out, that these were only obtainable if one took the time to set an exacting scenario in order to produce such high hit results. They take a look at the chart and act as if we can hit that high in every situation with every special on any type of mob be it raid level or level 3 gray.

The same problem was around in regards to highest magic hit. Surprisingly (or maybe not), melee characters topped those charts for quite a while about 6-8 months ago. There was some melee classes which had some sort of ultra high damage suicide attack. Given the right environment, they would execute the attack and take their place on the highest magic hit charts.

At least the following influenced the magical high-hit boards:* The Warrior class spell from Bloodlines allows a sacrificial attack, the damage is on the order of their max HP* Similarly the broken Coercer spell-line including Tyrannical Mind inflated the high hits* Reflected spells from boss mobs can account for some of the giant hitsWhile there are probably other screwups reflected on these boards, I am not aware of any others at this time.

I've submitted feedback to reset the eq2players high hits monthly/quarterly since release.I guess they like those rediculous numbers up there, for some reason. /shrug

BTW it wasn't just ppl making lvl 3 or 4 characters and letting ppl assassinate them fyi, I was messing around in EFP and a lvl 47 assassins challanged me to a duel I accepted and started to normally fight him my assassinate and at that time Condeming Blade were close to each other and when I got in stealth I hit assassinate instead of CB and it did 12k to him, so the lvl 3 4 thing isnt exactly accurate, not only that but a month later I did assassinate Ragnor for 10.9k so I wish they would credit that hit for me instead of PvP crap =x.

While this bug existed (my understanding is that it was a mitigation bug) dueling was extremely wierd, apparently because an even con mob has far better mitigation than most player characters. The damage numbers during a duel could get impressively high. This was seen at its maximum against low mitigation characters, a level 3 character (or your rat/mushroom pet) is just a handy example of such a target. Keep in mind that while hitting for 12k with Condemning Blade may seem impressive:(1128331781)[Mon Oct 03 02:29:41 2005] YOUR Gorestrike hits Blerg for 13585 points of slashing damage.(1128331886)[Mon Oct 03 02:31:26 2005] YOUR Deathly Blade hits Blerg for 23551 points of piercing damage.(1128332412)[Mon Oct 03 02:40:12 2005] YOUR Deathly Blade hits Blerg for 22539 points of piercing damage.(1128333459)[Mon Oct 03 02:57:39 2005] YOUR Gorestrike hits Blerg for 15356 points of piercing damage.(1128334037)[Mon Oct 03 03:07:17 2005] YOUR Deathly Blade hits Blerg for 33264 points of piercing damage.(1128334224)[Mon Oct 03 03:10:24 2005] YOUR Gorestrike hits Blerg for 15785 points of piercing damage.During the duel, Assassinate only once hit for under 65k, that one time it hit for 60k. Otherwise, I agree whole-heartedly -- they go ahead and calculate what a reasonable high-hit is, then wipe the boards of all the stupid ones so we can have fun with the melee high hit again.
