View Full Version : Rangers and Crafting (Newbie ?)
<DIV>I'm a low lvl Ranger and wanted to know what you guys think about what a Ranger should pick as his Crafting class??</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Also, since I dont see any Ranger type guide around here, what should at lvl 8 to increase, as a wood elf ranger (i.e. Str, Agi, etc...) Also, with the Bow is AGI the primary attribute or is it STR (or combo of the 2?) ?? </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Finally, if someone could point me in the right direction to an up-to-date (relatively speaking) Ranger guide/site. Any help would be extremely appreciated (as I have tons of newb questions but dont want to waste people's time posting a ton a stuff I could have answered somewhere else). </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thank you in advance!!</DIV>

<div></div>Your mileage may vary, depending on what you want the most. Alchemists make the poisons that we use to get our damage up to par. Jewelers make the runes that lead to our spell upgrades, and I'll tell you at least on my server at my level, it's getting expensive to outfit myself even in Adept I's, so I'm glad I have my crafter for that. Jewelers also make jewelry that can help increase our stats. Provisioners give you lovely drink to keep your power going. Woodworkers make your bows, and Weaponsmiths make your melee weapons. There are the others like Armorsmiths and such who make armor, but those are the main crafting classes that touch on us I think. <div></div><p>Message Edited by TaleraRis on <span class=date_text>06-16-2006</span> <span class=time_text>05:08 PM</span>
<P>Thanks alot...</P> <P>The only thing I might have a question about that you didnt cover would be arrows -- The more I read the more I'm confused, lol -- Actually it looks like alot of rangers don't craft wood stuff (Woodworkers?) so I guess they don't make their own arrows - which kind of confuses me since arrows seem to be a major part of the Ranger. The only thing I can see why, is that store bought arrows work for most soloing, etc, just need crafted arrows (Legendary arrows is what i keep seeing in the posts being talked about)? And I guess that having a crafter for 1 item (arrows) might be a watse. I don't know, guess I'll have to see what others think about this.</P> <P>Thank you!</P> <P> </P>

I've been crafting my own arrows since the crafting update. I've been wondering the same thing when I see people moaning about arrow costs. Why are there not more woodworking rangers? How does crafting work in EQ2, when you reach a point you have to pick a crafting path so if you take woodworking you can't make your own poisons?<div></div>

<P>Most crafters hated making arrows because off all the subcombines involved in making a single batch of arrows. It just wasn't worth the time and effort. I am not sure how much it has changed with LU24's update to crafting. The crafted ledgendary arrows do more auto-attack damage then regular store bought or summoned arrows (Rangers get a "makshift arrow" skill at level 20). But note, arrow type does not effect combat art (CA) damage. Plain tin arrows will do the same CA damage as a ledgendary arrow. Also, crafted arrows can be made that will deliver slashing or crushing damage. This can be quite useful when fighting a pierce resistant mob. </P> <P>As for primary attributes... I recommend strength. It directly increases our damage in both melee and ranged for both auto-attack and CA's. Agility increases our power pool, but rangers seem to seldom run out of power.</P> <P>Ranger guides... At the top of this forum is a thread entitled Ranger and general adventuring tips. Its a biut dated, but still contains many many useful nuggets of information</P> <P>Welcome to the ranger forums, and Yay me on post #200!!</P>

<P>Geez Prandtl...SPAM much? [Removed for Content]</P> <P> </P> <P>umm...lets see...crafting and rangers...</P> <P> </P> <P>Well...you can choose real useful professions like they suggest before me...Alchemists...jewellers...heck even a weaponsmith or armorer is handy....</P> <P>OR you can go the way I did...and be a carpenter <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> Every ranger is always thinking, I need more furniture to get my dps up....boy these arrows are so expensive let me go build a table...hrmm, going to go adventuring, I will need some good food and poisons, let me just build this bed then I will be fully prepared...</P> <P>/sigh Yes, I do create some lovely lovely things for people, and I also create repair kits and strongboxes....but I suggest any of the following Provisioner, alchemist, jeweler, armorer, weaponsmith, or woodworker.</P> <P>And as for arrows, well...for the most part you can get away with using the summoned arrows once you get to a certain level. I forget what level...like 22 or something...but...auto attack damage will suffer a bit.</P> <P>At the top of the ranger forums there is an updated list of combat arts. Keep an eye on that when trying to plan for future abilities.</P> <P>As for the strength vs. agility....I have a good balance between the two. When it comes to taking racial traits and what not...I took all agility at first...then later on I used a respec to go back and take str.....</P> <P>Strength will boost your damage a bit, agility will boost your power pool....its a toss up and a personal choice as to which you will focus on more (just remember, you cant do much dps if you dont have power)</P> <P>Have fun and dont feel like asking a question will bother anyone....hell, it gives us a reason to ignore working some more <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P>

Actually, arrows are quite simple to make now. I was using them to skill up, which I never did before, because of all the subcombines. They're the best return for resources, using only 1 root, 1 ore, 1 wood and 3 fuel. Since my other combines used like 3 or 4 of each resource and 9 fuels a pop AND gave the same amount of xp per combine, it was better to make arrows. Prior to this it was just a pain with all the subcombines. Woodworkers had to get arrowheads either from jewelers or level a cross class skill to make them, and the cross class skills used more fuel per combine, which was expensive from Tier 5 on. These required two combines. Then we had to make staves which needed two combines and fletchings (I think that was the recipe, I didn't make them much) which required another two combines. So that's 7 combines just to make 25 arrows. They still only make 25 at a time, but they can really be cranked out now. Of course the drawback is you need a 1:1:1 ratio of supplies. Crafted arrowheads before were made 3 at a time from 1 resource. So if you want to make rare ones, you need that exact number of rares and only get 25 from one rare. If I'm remembering correctly, when a rare ore was refined for anything, you would receive 4 ingots. These could be used in arrows and would make 3 at a time, so you would get like 12 arrowheads and those could be used to make 25 arrows each. It's a pretty bad return now if you use a rare item, but I can see where making arrows might potentially help a little in the "in-between" areas that you're missing tier-appropriate summoned arrows. I'm a couple of levels away from having my summoned arrows greying out, and I just got the skill 2 levels ago. So I could make the next tier regular arrows to keep my DPS where it should be. Of course, you can always do what I did and have 8 crafters (soon to be 9 when I start the armorsmith) so you don't have to make a choice <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> <div></div>

I only skimmed the responses, but I went Carpenter form day 1, and now that we can do repair kits, this is also a viable option. Face it, we die a LOT, never hurts to be able to mend armor in the field, LOL<div></div>

I don't compete... I don't SELL anything, LOLBTW unless you are going to TS as much or more than adventure, it REALLY doesn't matter. You have to be the same level or higher to make stuff for you to use...<div></div>
