Now I wonder just how many of you will get the subject reference?Anyway, I just wanted to pop in to say hello and share a couple experiences I've had so far on Butcherblock.I've been incredibly busy at work for the last couple of months and have had very little opportunity to log in for any significant length of time. Well, this week I have forced myself to relax a bit and enjoy the game or a while. Now I have been reading these forums for nearly a year and a half and in that time have read posts by my fellow rangers that truly impress me with their kindness and helpfulness. I never thought I would have the opportunity to meet them in-game or even *gasp* group with them. Well....this week I have had two such opportunities.Last night, I actually ran into Narsan (some may only recognize him as his forum name, Cronon) in the Barren Sky. Oddly enough, he was standing under my horse while I was tanking for my friendly neighborhood mystic. He's a short guy, that Narsan. I didn't ask him what he was doing there. I was afraid of the answer I might get. As surreal as it seemed to meet up with him, I was not disappointed by his pleasant attitude and subtle sense of humor. We weren't able to chat long, as my mystic friend and I were in a bit of a hurry to finish up a writ before a guild raid. However, it was sincerely a pleasure to meet him. He is an example of the type of person that makes you want to play a social RPG.Cheers Narsan. I certainly hope to run into you again very soon. Also, it seems that destiny has fulfilled itself. Kaeros and I actually grouped together earlier this week. Yes, the man who has somehow been able to read my thought for the last year actually invited me to one of his guild groups. My friends. let me tell you that he is the epitome of what a ranger should be. As kind as anyone I have ever met, funny as hell, and an absolute blast to team up with. I can not talk about Kae without mentioning his guildies that I was grouped with. They were all a class act, and exceptional players. Amalia, Tinson, and the others can shoot me later for not remembering their names...WOW! What a group. That was as much fun as I've had in-game in a very long time. Thanks Kae for the invite and a heck of a lot of fun. I look forward to another opportunity to kick some butt with you guys.Sorry for the rambling, but it looked like the boards could use some positive posts (I've seen several over the last few days, and it's VERY good to see). I felt like I had to give some attention to a few people who deserve it.Take care guys, and safe travels.

For me, there is no better feeling (at times) than having someone run up to me and say "hey, I know someone by the name of Taubin on the forums, is that you?"... I have had the chance to group with allot of people that know me from the forums, or whom I know from the forums. Unfortunately, most don't know me from the ranger forums, but, from the Everfrost and or Grobb forums. It's really great to be known (at times) :smileytongue:The only reason I say at times is, some people don't know how to take my sometimes brutal honesty in some threads, and seem to be oh, how to put this, put off by it. Anyways, I think it's really cool to meet people in game that you know from here, had I thought about it, I would have made a toon on Butcherblock, just so I might have the chance, someday, to meet the great rangers in the game that I really look up to. It seems allot of them are on Butcherblock, must be something in the water :smileytongue:

Zholain! Oh it is so nice to see your name up on the authored side again! Missed your presence around here hon. I am glad to hear that work is busy...I find that to be a good thing personally, usually means I have less time to sweat the things that dont really matter.

Me personally unless it is someone from the ranger forums saying hi in game I am usually very nervous...thinking that maybe it is someone who took offense to one of my more uhhh....creative posts. However, that has never actually manifested into reality.

I hope to meet more of you folks though...and definately hope I see more of Zholain in here as well...though as long as you visit every once in awhile I guess my zhowithdrawal will be contained.

Peace Health and Happiness to you Zholain

Saihung

You've been a great friend for a long time, and I'm very grateful that our friendship continues to grow now that we can hang out in-game. Everyone else loved having you come out, too, so expect us to kidnap you again soon.

Hmmmm I think Butcherblock.Worldranger is the channel name.

And it's always neat meeting people from the forums in game. On that note I met someone (who I now consider a friend) in game once and was shocked when they said "I know you from the forum, you seem nice." I guess for a while I had a bit of a rep on my server forums (before the merge and then ensuing.... *sigh* nevermind, don't want to remember it). Either way it was neat.

Oh, I remember those animated versions too... I loved "The Hobbit" movie, that did more to clarify my image of Gollum than anything else. And that voice! They did an incredible job on Gollum in Peter Jackson's films, but the voice I hear in my head is always the one from The Hobbit animated film.

I do think most of the casting in the films was superb, but I'd rather not have ANY actors faces in my head when I'm reading the books. I'm looking forward to getting back to just immersing myself in Tolkein's world directly, with the characters rendered as he created them, rather than someone else's interpretation of them and of their story, many decades later. No reflection on Jackson's films or on my opinion of them (I loved them), but I'm a book person, and I don't want any movies, however good, to come between me and Tolkein's works.

"oh what do we do / with the funny little things" ROFL

Just to keep this thread firmly derailed...Jay, I think you're mixing the theatrical release 1st half with the made-for-TV 2nd half. Originally, the first half of the trilogy was released in movie theaters and was animated/illustrated by Ralph Bakshi. That is the one that was filmed and then animation was done on top of the B/W film. It wasn't very good (and didn't do enough at the box office to merit a sequal) but was levels above the made-for-TV sequel. The 2nd half - which was broadcast- was done in the style of the original Hobbit we all remember and had *awful* music, especially the infamous "Frodooooo of the NINE fingers... and the ring of DOOOOOM".Ecchhhh.
