Splitpaw would be good, might be a hair tough to get around TS to get the quest done, but if you can, I think it would be worth it. Splitpaw is about as confined at CoB, or Stormhold though. Best outdoor zone for lvl is TS, you just have to find the right mobs to go after, been a while and they changed all the types of mobs ( heroic to solo, etc. ) so I am not all too sure which area of TS to tell you to hunt in.

The trick is not to get greedy. Getting to 20 wasn't altogether difficult. Going on will take a little more thought.

I'll tell you my current hunting spot. I just got to 20 too, although I'm fast approaching 21 now. Go to the steppes station and follow the road away from the fort. You'll quickly find a bend in the road with a little valley behind containing ALOT of skellies. This is the entry to Stronghold (I think). On the left side of the road is big embankment with all kinds of bears on it, some wolves and the odd gnoll scattered around. There's a couple of smal watch towers too. That embankment, that ledge right there will easily get you to 21. With you 3 bow skills combined with your stealth moves you can get anything down fast. Just fire off your three bow skills, let the mob get to you, stun it, step in and tear it to strips. Works very well. Dont forget to summon new arrows when the skill cycles.

When I ding 21 I'm going to see if the ledge is still good enough, if not, I'll probably move to the Tower lands near the oracle tower. There's a whole bunch of lizards and skellies hanging around there.

Good suggestion, I believe I was also taking on the groups of lizards to the west of the ruins of caltorsis. There is a big hil with lizards all over it. At the very top there are some npc's. This is all in antonica. IMHO I dont think splitpaw would be easy to get to (not that you should only do easy things :smileytongue: ). Not to mention...you would be forsaking all of the wonderful open space to go into some mutts hole. I would say stick to antonica and keep doing quests if you can. Get your armor quest started too...no better time than at twenty. There are many undead, gnolls, and animals to keep you going for awhile. Remember, you are a ranger now, but you dont have alot of ranger abilities yet. The armor quest armor is very good for you right now. Thunderring Steppes and Nektulos Forest are just too dangerous for you right now...imho. Get to level 23-25 then go take a look around when everything is giving you a second thought. Good Luck

Thanks for the feedback. Some good food for thought here.

I will follow the advice and stay in Antonica for a while longer. In fact I just leveled to 21 hunting Giant Kodiaks for my AC2. I gave TS another try immediately afterwards, but still found it a little bit too tough. If my bow CAs miss their mark on yellow/orange cons I don't stand a chance and have to run for it. Hmmm...but perhaps thats all part of being a ranger? Hopefully things will get better once I get my ranged stance.

Hi Ghast,

My range ding 21 last night and i'll stay in antonica for a while. In antonica one good place to lvl in 20's is the shatered valey. It can be made solo and was good for rangers. Take down all mages in shrine and one big monster appear. He gives a good XP and a very good loot. Other good place is the beach near the caltorsis. You can fight great bears, wolfs, crabs and thorn briars there, with lvl 16 to 20. Only take care with "Blackbark" and the root stranglers. And the farm near windstalker is good to hunt scarecrows and earthcrawlers ( average lvl 18 )

Good fight

[]'s Marcio

I did nicely with GIant Kodiaks myself. The area north above Windstalker is good for lots of wolves and bears and I was getting chests like crazy. Plus if you TS, it's a good place to harvest while you kill.

I didn't go to TS at all until 22, close to 23. There are so many things quest-wise you can do in Antonica and I've found questing goes a lot faster than just grinding. It's a lot less mind-numbing, too.

One more area if I may suggest... The docks in TS. Just take a left when leaving the docks and go over the top of the hill. There are shore crabs and undead between the levels of 20 to 24. Just be careful of the 24 heroic beach clampers. Pick a spot off to the side and just pull with your bow. You'll be fine. Great drops, too.

Great info, I am looking forward to trying some of these new hunting grounds when I get home from work.

I never considered Shattered Vale. I have seen it on my map, but never explored any further. The docks in TS sound interesting too. Talera does have a point though, questing seems to make leveling less painless. Much more rewarding than endless grinding!

If you can get to the Dock in Nek Forest it has great exp as well, but I found the lizards near Oracle Tower with my monk to be great XP through 23.

14?15-20 Anton: Crabs on the North Eastern side of zone are godly exp with so risk whatsoever, they spawn by the thousands and you can kill continuously for hours with no chance of Agro except for one named crab on end of beach. If theres any more area's like this anywhere in the game let me know. High Density Non Agro mobs with super fast repop is what I'm looking for. Think I found them at 16 or so but I wish I'd gotten there earlier. Mobs are level 16-19 I wanna say? 20-22 / 23 TS: I did crabs on first beach you hit when you go east from anton, You can clear that beach and follow it around the bend and theres another beach with more crabs. Just clear one and the other should be ready to go. Mobs are level 21 to 24ish. 23-25 TS: Found a Valley at the Southern end of TS right below Tower 5 and next to Cove of Decay. You can work you way from the top down till you hit the centaurs and then sneak back and do it again. Mobs are level 23 to 27. If anyone has anywhere to go from here or beyond please share. My 4 levels of double exp has been worked through and now exp is sloowwwwww. PS. Does anyone have any expirience with Harclave? I've heard its great exp you can grind to 50 but I don't know how fast exp would be for a Ranger. Most instances with group mobs didn't seem too rewarding when I was trying them since you can't get off all your bow CA's. Just wondering if i should spend the 7.99 on it. Also how's Nek? Freeport version of TS?

Nek is a blast, just as you zone in From CL turn left and say non stop grind bait, I mean it. The cackling cadavers are non aggro which means you go non stop, they are 20-23, good drops but really it is a grinders gaven. There is also the dock area as well, crabs, pirates, spiders OH MY!! Again a great grind area just have to be a little smarter but it is a better kiting area then by CL. Went from 21-25 in two nights on double XP.

You're killing similar mobs to what you would kill anyway and you can get some nice gear upgrades either in chests or from finishing the quest. Plus there's the nice boost of xp you get when you finish. Some can be pretty decent. And a lot of the time there's monetary reward. I always swing by Trapper Borgus and the barb on the docks if I know I'm going to wander around TS hunting, because they have repeatable quests that are for general types of mobs that I'm going to run into anyway. I also grab city writs before I leave. There are some good solo ones in TS. Grinding has never been all that appealing to me, but sometimes it'd be useful to crunch some quick XP when you're close to a ding. Now, it seems like grinding is just not that worthwhile - doing a Far Seas Requisition will likely earn you more XP in less time. I like that change, personally. Now more than ever, I tend to load up on quests just on the off-chance that I kill a mob and it gives me some kind of update - and the new "Complete" tag is very helpful when it comes time for turn-ins.

BTW, speaking of TS docks, load up on the Requisitions from the table there and you'll have a good crop of work orders to fill. I've found that many of these overlap with other quests, and I love getting multiple quest dings for a single mob kill.

Yeah I gathered all the FS Reqs it let me take so far and it's funny to be tooling around killing things and get updates for things I forgot I had.

I've mostly been is TS since I hot lvl 18. Hunting lvl 20 bugs for Trapper dude got me most of the way to 19 and then I hit the lvl 20 Small Shore Crabs for a guild writ. Plenty of good drops from the non-agros in TS - as long as you can get past the Leg Biters in one piece at lvl 18

I purchased Splitpaw add-on recently and have been exploring the solo instances for the last few days. So far its been working quite well. My ranger can easily dispatch grouped gnolls and even managed to take down a a yellow single up arrow mob. I am not sure if the mobs in these zones are weaker than normal because I could not take down similar conned ones with such ease in other areas such as TS.

I have gained 3 levels and picked up some fairly good loot along the way.
What level are you, Ghast? I ended up having to do the solo instances of Splitpaw with my mystic boyfriend. Even if I managed to cream one spellcaster, the rest ate me up.

I haven't gone back yet at 27, but Hidden Shot has made my life a lot easier out in TS and I have a feeling it will in SP, too. I wouldn't recommend Sp for the low 20s, however. I don't think we have the tools we need to handle it just yet at those levels.

I didn't want to give the impression I was doing it just for the xp. The bugs I did because my crafting had eaten all my coin and it seemed like a nice way to get some cash. Then, and as I was there anyway and my little Ranger lady hadn't got more than a handful of points for the guild, I figured I'd do a writ while I was there. The only time I grind for xp is crafting as I don't seem to be able to make anything useful for my ranger until I get my TS level a little way ahead of my adventuring level. And even then it isn't much of a grind as I love to see what stats new pristines get As soon as it stops being fun I may as well go into the office!

why do you guys call them mobs? Surely mob means more than one, but you seem to be referring to individual villains as mobs?

Ahh, good question.

A mob in eq is not your regular, fires and pitchforks type of gathering. Mob stands for....errr....well nobody really knows what it stands for but the general concensus is that any killable creature controled by the game is called a mob. Non combatant creatures are called NPC's (Non Player Characters). The line between the two is often thin. A guard can be an NPC one moment and a mob the next.

If you get a few mobs togethers, they are, indeed, a mob in the classical sence of the the word. However the plural 'Mobs' is used.

That's f***ed up dude. I refuse to pervert the English language any further - I will call them villains and mobs. A gathering of like minded players in a group is a crew. Using a plural to describe a single game entity is criminally insane.
