View Full Version : Anatomy of a Triple Fire (Master II)
<DIV>I hope this doesn't seem self-glorifying or snobby; I'm not particularly uber or anything and I don't want to come off like I'm all that and a side of fries. I just got really excited last night when I calculated a few of my Triple Fire attacks, and I thought I'd share. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So this is a Triple Fire (Master II) attack from a level 50 ranger wielding a pristine cedar bow. I had the Disruptive Torment T5 poison active at the time, as well as the Arrow Frenzy offensive stance. I was attacking blue solo mobs (Samiel pirates on south beach in SS), some straight con, others with single up or down arrows. Not sure of the exact con on the target for this attack... it died to fast for me to notice. <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG>Triple Fire (Master II):</STRONG></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#ffff33><STRONG>124</STRONG></FONT> (first arrow)</DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#cc00cc><FONT color=#66ff33>250</FONT> </FONT>(poison DD)</DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#66ff33>41</FONT> (poison DoT)</DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#66ffff>210</FONT> (Quick Shot proc, from Arrow Frenzy)</DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#ffff33><STRONG>315</STRONG></FONT> (second arrow) </DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#66ffff>210</FONT> (Quick Shot)</DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#cc00cc><FONT color=#66ff33>250</FONT> </FONT>(poison DD)</DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#66ff33>41</FONT> (poison DoT)</DIV> <DIV><STRONG><FONT color=#ffff33>406 </FONT></STRONG>(third arrow) </DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#cc00ff>166</FONT> (Gleaming Strike)</DIV> <DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#cc00cc><FONT color=#66ff33>250</FONT> </FONT>(poison DD)</DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#66ff33>41</FONT> (poison DoT)</DIV> <DIV>------------------------------ </DIV> <DIV><STRONG><FONT color=#ff9900>2,243 Total damage</FONT></STRONG></DIV> <DIV><STRONG><FONT color=#ff9900></FONT></STRONG> </DIV> <DIV>Not bad, huh? Poison procs on every arrow, Quick Shot procs on two of the three, and Gleaming Strike on one. In retrospect, I'd be better suited by equipping my SSoY when soloing, as I do the vast majority of my damage with the bow. Since Ykesha's Wrath can proc off of a ranged attack, that would throw one more possible proc into the mix for a few hundred more damage. The total damage probably isn't phenomenal, but it's the first time I've actually gone back and totaled up one of my attacks and seen it break the 2000 mark. I'm a happy ranger. <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> </DIV></DIV>

<font size="2">Very nice Jay !!! Last night I was also paying closer attention to the individual damage shots I was doing to the mobs. It's incredible. Seeing 2000+ pop up over the mob's head with regularity is quite amazing. Truly, only wizzies/warlocks and assassins can compete with us now...exactly as it should have always been. WOW! Is it fun!!! I haven't actually recorded the data in my combat logs, but using Statilyzer, I'm easily getting 200 dps nearly every fight without using poisons. Throw poisons into the mix, and it really gets impressive. I've been playing around with different types of poisons trying to find what I liked. I think still I like the high up-front damage poisons and low DoT's. I have a question though(I forgot to check this in my logs last night). When using Storm of Arrows, does the poison proc on all targets struck by the aoe? Because it really seemed that while taking a couple named in LS that I could use SoA after the fight had been going on a bit.... the tank would not come off the named, but in a little while, the lackeys would just start falling.... It was awesome to see, but I didn't know if that was me taking out the little guys or some other aoe in the group. Dumb question, I know, but just something I'm curious about. </font><div></div>

<DIV>I had similar experiences last night, for my level. I went to check out DoF and duoed with a Fury for a while. Then a Paladin joined and I really got to shine. I was consistently seeing very high numbers - sorry I did not keep track for posting purposes. I do recall one stealth-based melee attack doing 894 damage, not counting poison. This is at level 39. Wow.</DIV>

I was in a [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] nice group killing yellows in Living Tombs last night. We had a single mob ^^^ spectre and it was at about half health and everyone had debuffed it into the dirt (this is key remember that this mob was debuffed into the dirt or this wouldn't have happened). I swagger up plant myself firmly and start casting Triple Fire Master II. By the time I was finished casting one of our bards had hit a big attack and so had some of our other guys and the mob was down to lower than 25% health. WHAMMMMMMM Triple Fire lands and knocks it all the way down to 1 or 2% not sure which cause it died an instant later I just know I didn't get the kill shot. Immediately everyone in the group's jaw drops, they look at me as if to ask if that really just came from a Ranger lol. It was great, with a legendary poison, app II Arrow Frenzy, a couple proc's from various group members, gleaming strike from imbued weaps, and the Kerran claw proc training choice I added all my dmg up and I had hit for exactly 4,173 points of rangerlicious damage. It was the single most beautiful moment of my eq life /sniffle. Please though don't go off in a rant about omg Rangers need to be nerfed because this is not typical. If not for several procs I had from other classes (warlock, conjurer, inquisitor, and fury where what I assumed had put those procs on me), a legendary poison, and a crap load of luck having pretty much everything proc on every single hit for Triple Fire on top of the mob being debuffed into the dirt, I never would have been able to hit for that much. Triple Fire for me usually hits all totaled on a good hit for about 2-3k with 3k being rare even for a good hit.

<DIV>:smileysurprised: I think I just soiled myself..../check pants. Yup.</DIV>
<DIV>VERY nice, everyone... it's great to step up and take our rightful place on the DPS ladder, isn't it? <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> I'm really enjoying my increased damage output, and I noticed last night that the stances - Arrow Frenzy vs. Dance of Leaves - make a <STRONG>huge</STRONG> difference. Have you guys noticed the same thing? I may have been slacking off and lost poison or something (there was some death last night... okay a LOT of death last night, [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] those cyclopes) but I noticed at one point that I'd left DoL up after off-tanking in one fight, and my damage was severely hindered. Switched back over to Arrow Flurry and I started getting the numbers I was used to. I tend to be an aggressive ranger in battle, especially when soloing - I throw everything I can at the mob unless the situation calls for moderation - so I have offensive stance up almost all the time. I'm going to have to experiment a bit and get a better feel for how good the defensive stance works in situations where I need it.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Zho, I can't swear to this, but I don't see why poison (or gleaming strike or any other proc) wouldn't have a chance to proc off every arrow in SoA. And with Arrow Frenzy up, Quickshot could proc off each one too. And... well... hmm. I discovered something the other night, but it's too good to share publicly b/c I'm not sure it's working as intended, hehehe... but don't worry, it's a good thing, a very good thing. <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> </DIV>

Seriously appreciate the kind words, by "not uber" I just mean I'm not like Captain Fabled with Master this and Adept 3 that, ya know? Just didn't want this post to look like I was bragging about how much damage I personally can do (there's always someone that will do more); I just wanted to share a look behind-the-scenes, give other rangers an idea of the Master II's potential for this skill, and maybe spark some additional enthusiasm from the younger rangers and give them some more to look forward to. Thanks again tho man, the kindness really means a lot. <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P>

<P>Good post. Thank you Jay for starting it. I used to not look at the damage that Triple Fire did, but now...:smileyhappy: If all arrows and procs hit I believe we will be capable of 4500+ with Triple Fire. Mine is Adept 3 and I did 3786 in damage last night, and not all the procs went off .</P> <P>Is there any reason groups shouldn't include a Ranger now ? :smileywink:</P>

<DIV>Great numbers Jay. For me it just added (good) confusion. I picked leg shot Master 2 and they cant catch me. If they do its a 1-2 melee shot and action over. Now im wondering if I should have picked triple shot Master 2 ...open with hidden fire, leg shot then triple shot and its over..lol.</DIV> <DIV>Its nice when the choices are all good!</DIV> <DIV> As for poison, i have always used the med dd, med dot as it works good for one or many solo cons while soloing (get the poison going). However it seems Im going to change to the high DD as my enemies are never alive long enough for the "first" dot. (love it)</DIV> <DIV> I went out with a lvl 47 conj to clear the fields in everfrost and give both of us more practice with our new upgrades and he was amazed at how fast we went thru everything (his pets were upgraded also). Once his pet took over it was all done in under 5 secs. I know exp has been slightly increased for a period but we both got around 30% exp in a 25 min period.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>PS all of these kills solo and duo were from mainly lvl 47-48 single down con</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Chanahook</DIV> <DIV>LVL44 Ranger</DIV> <DIV>Highkeep </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

All I can say is: WOW. I took the hidden fire master 2 because of the damage it 'did'. Granted I have hit a couple of times for 1500+ but the set up time is a little rediculous compaired to triple fire (stealthmode plus slow cast). I guess on respec I might have to take triple fire. On a side note, a guildie just gave me an ironwood, Kaeros <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> Now all I need to do is find a 59 WW to get my new imbued bow <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> <div></div>

You get great damage output either way, but you pay for Hidden's guaranteed damage with the longer cast and stealth requirement. I'm a kerran ranger, we're all about ferocious untamed savagery in battle, right Rhanin? LOL! I just don't have the patience of a cold, calculating elf. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P> <P>GRATS on the Ironwood, bro!! I got lucky myself and harvested a piece on Saturday. Last I checked, we had a 52 WW on server - I added him to friends list, so I'll send you his name later on. Keep me posted if you see anyone getting close to 59, cuz I'm sure we'll be able to use our pristine imbued ironwood longbows at 52. WOOT!!!</P>

You just HAD to bring that up, didn't you???? OK, for the record, Kaeros killed me in 5 seconds flat the other night (if that)... <div></div>
I don't think there's any tier 6 imbue recipes in the game yet <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> I managed to find a rare root, but it looks like there's no tier 6 hex dolls either. Hoping they get these sorted out soon! <div></div>

<DIV>After a bit of experimentation and learning, I tried my hand at soloing for the first time since the changes and boy, was I suprised! Using offensive stance, I was dropping most mobs at my feet before they had a chance to take a swing at me. I can take on yellow solo ^ mobs in SS with no real problems.<BR>Here's an example of one attack I did on a white ^ mob. It took the use of only two CA's - Hidden fire and triple fire and he was dead.<BR><BR>Hidden fire = 976<BR>Quick shot (auto fire this) - 218, 218, 218 = 654<BR>Poison procs - 85, 105, 85, 105, 85, 105, 85, 105 = 760<BR>Triple fire - 135, 225, 514 = 874<BR><BR>Total Hit points = 3264<BR><BR>If it continues like this then I think I can live with that <IMG src="http://www.ascendedheroes.guildportal.com/Faces/face_happy.gif"><BR></DIV>

Glad to hear the happy rangers... I was waiting for group members last night (forget where). 2 51^ gnolls pop and a pally starts tanking one ... I wait ... wait. He has it to yellow 10 - 15 sec later and the other is still green. Triple fire(adept III) the green 51^ one and one shotted him .... Sharp shot on the yellow and fight is over. I love those ranger moments <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> Btw I noticed some rangers getting highest mellee hits on my server for over 9k with a bow... not even lvl 50 yet. Not sure what is going on there? I wonder if the con system works in reverse against mobs. Methinks a visit to the peat bog is in order.... <div></div>

I agree, triple fire is one of the best ranged CA's in our arsenal. The upgrade later in the ranger path is even more powerful and will excite you even more. As with all ranged CA's, the more gear you obtained with a proc effect the better. ATM my triple fire can proc any of the following: Three Arrows (Triple Fire) Quick Strike (Offensive bow stance) Translucent Torrent of Ages (very high DD, low DoT) Ice Blast (cryptic bp) Prismatic Shard (prisy) Ancient Glyph of Venom (valian bow) I must say that it is one chat box spam that I can't get enough of. With that said, make sure to use your deaggros effectively whenever using ranged CA's <span>:smileyhappy:</span> Linyen Ranger Fires of Heaven <div></div>

Not only is it doing more damage but the thing I love most is especially when we have our offensive stance up it actually hits all 3 times most of the time. They finally killed that crap where we were missing a lot.
