For the non-raider (solo/groups/light raiding) if your DPS bonus isn't maxed then you are hurting yourself by using dual wield rather sword +shield. e.g.Tier 7 xegoniteSingle wield + shield: DR 58.6 +56% DPS bonus from stamina line = 91.416 DR + you get the bonus from your shield, take for example the commonly availableDrelakor's Scale Shield: Protection 643 +20str +12agi +55health +737 magic (+10% heal proc if you are hit) - a good basic soloer/group players shieldDual wield: DR 43.9 x2 = 87.8 (less damage) & less defence than the stamina line - some will say "you get 2 offensive procs with dual wield....". You can get shield with offensive proc (crafted) or heal.Summary: Similar damage, shield line gives better HPs, avoidance, and potentially resists.e.g.Tier 7 best items available for non-raiderSingle wield + shield:Available on broker/lootableAncient Velium Shortsword DR 71.2 +56% DPS bonus from stamina line = 111.072 DRArchaic Roundshield+8str +12agi +18sta +12wis +23int +80health +76power +284disease +497divine +355magic +355mental +284poison +71crushing +71piercing +71slashing protection 795Dual wield: Ancient velium kris x2 DR 53.4 x2 = 106.8Summary: 2 velium kris has lower basic damage but will overtake the *sword+shield* due to 2 procs. However theres no way that very very slight damage edge is better or indeed equal to having better resists, avoidance and mitigation with the shield. This analysis considers Non-hardcore raiders in the endgame in claymore kit up to deathtoll/nizara looted and masters.......surely the stamina line wins for this group? Just solve the equation2 * 50.0 = 1.72 * xx = 100/1.72 = 58.14 DR 1H

It doesn't quite work the way people have done above..

Dual-wield DR is slightly inflated due to DW's being interrupted more in CA usage. Through a bunch of tests and parsing, I've figured out that in normal usage, a 1Hander will do approximately 70% of the damage of two same quality DW's. So you take the DR of DW's and multiply it by 0.7 to get the 'equivalent' 1h DR..

So.. To WITHOUT AA's to match the raw 'quality' of two 50 DR weapons, (100 DR total) you'd need a 1hander with ~70 DR (ie: 100 * 0.7 = 70). This will of course be + or - a few DR depending on your fighting style, conditions, etc. So anything from 66-74 or so DR would be roughly on the mark.

Comparing DR's with AA's is a bad idea, since AA's impact your damage differently, with Wisdom being the only one that actually directly effects DR.

I would like to also remind people of the /weaponstats ingame command, which shows you the actual damage numbers that were hidden before. With it you can figure out the real damage you will do per swing, and figure out your true DPS from auto-attack..
