Lol, I just wanted to apologize for this being in a rough layout form. I wrote it a while back and kinda thought I might do something with it but just wanted to see what a few of you think. I know my grammar is slightly... umm.. off. But, I'ma bit rusty (have been a while) So I'm not so much worried about grammar. But more toward if it's interesting and flows well. I think the end was a bit rushed I should fix it maybe later if it's anygood.

Journal of a Coercer

Only a short time from when the spires where activated they crawled with activity from the inhabitants of Norrath. This selection of the journal starts as the young mage sits upon the spire awaiting her trip to the over realm on the Commonlands spire. Her name is Ivori, a lithe, young, and curious high elf with a thirst for adventure. Betrayer of Qeynos, she holds no grudgeds against others of the city simply does not want to follow it herself.
Oh, I do find the wait to be terribly agonizing. But at the same time it has my blood pumping to think of going to such a new wondrous place. I stare upwards as I stand at my place on the platform waiting to be shot upwards into the clouds. My eyes see nothing above us, not in the slightest or even a hint besides the clouds that float lazily here and there. But the thought of something above us, so far above us, boggles me.
“One minute till teleportation!” the gate caller yelled over the din of voices from those crowded around. My heart beat faster as I looked up yet again ignoring the mindless chatter of my companions. I could not focus on what they where saying if I wanted to. But then the world changed.
When I could focus rightly on the world around me again I quickly realized that the Commonlands had been left behind me. “Welcome to the Tenebrous Tangle!” an owl like creature almost seemed to hoot at me. Knowing I must have been staring I shifted my gaze the other direction. Over the edge of what I now realized was a floating island.
I quickly sat down dizzy from just a glance at the height I was at. Not even a sign of ground below the islands I could see floating out on the horizon. I marveled at the giant roots that twisted and turned from the bottoms of these chunks of land and slowly crawled to the edge. I shivered as I stared down at what looked like it would be an endless fall.
I glanced to my left at the tall tiger striped Kerra who towered over me. His vigilant eyes taking in the scene around him, his balance unbothered by the momentous height he was at. He reached down with one large hand grabbed my arm and pulled me to my feet. “Don’t fall off now or I’ll have to hunt every where for what ever would be left of you.” I slowly nodded looking back down. “Thanks Rhanin…”
I turned around the face the well built wall that separated me from what must be the rest of the island. Shivered at the edge behind me and walked forward through the people gathered around and out the doorway. The sight was breath taking, tall trees and even a waterfall on down the way. A stream ran down the center of my view at a quick pace and what looked like tree house out posts stood about. The sun was lazily floating down the western sky giving it pink hues and casting beautiful golden rays off the waters surface. Reflections of the mighty trees dancing across its smooth running curface.
Two towers like structures stood around where the stream disappeared from my sight. I slowly walked over to see where it disappeared to. It tumbled over rocks a cascaded to another area below me. I worked my way out on the rocks a bit only to lose my balance and crash down into the pool below. I fought out of the water gasping and staring up eyes wide.
“Could have been worse Ivori just look at it like that.” I told myself verbally. I pulled my self to my feet still shaking from the fall and sloshed over to the edge to look over it. Being much more careful this time. To my shock and amazement there stood a camp of Frogloks. “How did they get here? …”
Giving up on my pondering a moment I slowly laid down on my back feeling fairly safe knowing that such a peaceful race was only over the edge of the rocks. And not a cliff. I lay there resting my mind reeling from all it had taken in and all the things I was pondering. Frogloks up here, owl people, and floating islands it all seemed like way to much to try and understand all at once.
I opened my eyes to look up at the sky when my eyes focused on a figure falling rapidly toward the pool. I screamed and curled up but the only thing to come out from under the surface was Rhanin. He walked out of the water and shook his head slinging water every where, stopping to look at me his ears twitching at the droplets still on them. “Something wrong?” he asked simply.
“Well, you DID just scare the life out of me does THAT count!?!” I huffed at him. But he only gave me his normal mischievous Kerra smirk and strode off down the ramp toward the Frogloks. I quickly made it to my feet and pursued my feline friend. If anything to bad was down here I felt assured safety with someone who could fight near by.
To my amusement and horror camps of Freeportians and Qeynosians stood about. I stepped in quick pace behind the long legged Kerra as he made his way around to talk to the representatives from his city. My eyes settled on the dark elf that stood proudly so dangerously close to the edge. I had to go make my "praises" to Lucan if I was to find out anything.
Not liking the idea of my back being unprotected but knowing the shifty ways of the Freeportians I wondered over to their camp praising Lucan with every step and bow of my head. I made my way to stand in front of the dark elf who simply made it her business to belittle me while I only half listened to her. My eyes wouldn't shift off her but my ear listening to her compatriots.
My mind went reeling over the edge just behind her as my eyes could see the endless distance down. The sun caught my attention as I realized that it wasn't moving from where it hung in the sky. I knew my eyes where shifting toward it and snapped my gaze back to the unimpressive female.
I nodded at her as she asked a final question but I was not very sure what I had just agreed to. Shocked I turned and walked away another praise to Lucan did I mumble as I meandered back toward Rhanin. His shimmering bright green eyes only glanced at me a second as I stopped beside him still thinking about the edges of the islands and realizing I saw no way back up.
Rhanin's nudge from his elbow to get my attention nearly toppled me over so enveloped in my thoughts was I. "Hey, whatca staren at?" he asked looking as if he was holding back a laugh. "Er... umm." I straightened my still soaked robes, "How do we get back up?" my gaze followed the cliff.
"Clouds" he stated as if it where simple.
"How can you use something you can’t touch to get back up? Come on, your a ranger you must have some intelligence right?”
He stared at me blankly a moment. "We are not in the natural world you have studied for so long now. [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] mages thinking everything has logical explanations." He began to wonder back up the path we had came down.
"Just where do you think your going!?!" I huffed, frustrated already at the thought of floating land and cliffs to nothing… And what ever it was I had agreed to all running through my mind. Rhanin looked at me curiously for a moment, then as if you answer my thoughts stated. “You agreed to help try to take the Qeynos claymore.” I stared at him blankly a moment, he always seemed to hear everything with his big ears.
His strides stopped at a marble station, but the thing of transport was a cloud just as he had said. I stared at it as he hoped onto the cloud and shot off into the sky. I verbally gasped as my furry friend flew off and my heart raced. I knew it was the only way up for me but I didn’t like the thought at all. I crawled onto the cloud grasping that which made no sense and I couldn’t see.
It shot through the air up into a great arch to stop at yet another station. It dissipated and I rolled across the ground. I was back at the original portal; Rhanin stared down at me smirking as usual. I quickly got to my feet and dusted off. Not that it did much good as the dirt stuck to my still soggy robes. I walked back out of the gates and looked toward the waterfall, eyes tracing every area I could see.
“Not much of interest here I’m afraid.” Rhanin stated walking up behind me. I knew he had already been out scouting already, it was best just to trust him. I sighed as I looked about the beauty and mystery of the world before me over taking my senses even with my second look at the scenery. But I knew I had to move on and see the rest of the over realms. Next stop would be Barren Sky!

Message Edited by Cersiana on 05-11-2006 01:28 PM

Looks good so far! My sole comment would be to break up the post and space it so it is easier to read. A good start!

Oh gods. I get that all the time when I'm posting. Do what I do and be sure to select and copy your text before you post it, that way it wont be lost. I dont know how many times I've had to rewrite a passage because of that annoying bug.
