I noticed the goddess tunare is a god in WoW and EQ2 and she is both the god of nature in both games. I was wondering was tunare a god that was worshipped in real life? How come she is so popular in so many rpgs?

lol, that's pretty bad :/ Though considering the average wow player I don't think many will notice or care. Really, though, why does it matter? I see god's like Odin, Thor, and Zeus being used outside of their respective mythologies without Greeks or Vikings going all insane on webforums...

I couldn't find anywhere on the internet that says shes in WoW... If she is, SOE should sue.

Nobody is going insane, their just pointing out (and rightfully so IMO) that it's kind of cheap for WoW to be using the same god as EQ does. Having a game use Zeus or Thor is OK, because their hostorical, and many games etc take place in historical (or quasi historical, ie a world that shares most norse or greek culture) settings. However for WoW to be using an EQ goddess, unless said goddess is actually a historical figure herself, seems really cheap.

It seems that in WoW it is the complete oposite alignment. So I am thinking that it is supposed to make fun of the EQ diety.

You all do realize that Tunare is just an anagram for Nature right?

Josgar
11-20-2006, 06:28 AM

You do realise that the anagram is a proper name used by the EQ universe... Under the trademark that says: All names and characters are trademarks of their rightful owners.

Message Edited by Josgar on 11-19-2006 07:29 PM

Elune is godess of the moon. Not even close to similar to Tunare. In fact, she's the only recorded real "god" in the WoW universe. Unless you consider the Titans as gods which I don't believe they are.Oh, I forgot about the "old gods" of Azeroth that the Titans defeated. Might make some merit to the argument that they are gods after all.

Message Edited by Krayor on 11-19-2006 05:41 PM

Message Edited by Krayor on 11-19-2006 05:43 PM

Well acctually she is, taurens also worship elune who by them is known as the earth mother shes really like a nature goddess like tunare is.

This is news to me...Tauren actually worship the earth itself, referring to it as the "Earth Mother", in ancestrial shamanistic type worship. There's never been reference to Elune that I've seen, though. I don't think it's the same thing.

Elune is the night elf goddess, I thought. (for the record there was elune in Dragonrealms too, as well as some others that are shared by many other games that came out after Dragonrealms, which was a smallish text MUD (1000 active players or so).

Yes and taurens and night elves share a druid town as well (where they can portal and train etc.) There are a lot of parallels in WOW and EQ2 , here are a couple

1) Crossroads : Both in WOW and Commonlands

2) Wailing caverns in WOW and I forget the ones in common lands now but they are WC too (? someone help me out im senile)

3) The new fae lands are very similar to the night elf lands (and nothing wrong with that, i think eq2 did a better job myself)

4) Ironforge in WOW and Irontoes now in EQ2

There are a few others that are really weird, as they aer almost identical naming wise, but I can't remember at the moment.

Also Sony and Blizzard really are not on bad terms at all , just fyi. They seem to be quite friendly . (perhaps both being in So Cal?)

No giant mushrooms either. For 4, the Irontoes existed in EQ1, and have been brought back to life in EQ2. That's more of a parallel between the original game and its sequel, rather than a parallel between EQ2 and WoW.

I don't see it as massively signifigant, I find the similaritys as mentioned to be funny, I mean is it gonna be a standard from now on for there to be a evil-aligned landmark called "crossroads" in a Sahara-themed low level area called "Commonlands" with elephants, large cats, and ugly [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] ostrige derivations, and a dungeon that can be abbreveiated as "WC"?

and sorry, even if WoW does not have giant mushrooms, and is less pseudo-realistic, the Fae starting area DOES greatly resemble Teldrassil in general feel and all.

WoW basically ripped off half its zones and ideas from EQ1, then turned it into a mass market friendly grind fest. Still to give them credit it is a rather catchy game, however EQ2 just has more meat to it for me.

Hey Willias, no, I said they were parallel ie similar, and did not mention who came first. Was simply pointing out similar things. I have played both games to extremes and do find the fae lands very much on par with night elf starter lands. I like it though, certainly not complaining and I think Sony did a BETTER job and that includes the shrooms I was not even saying that they copied WOW though, WOW may very well have copied them

(PS I hate WOW and I found EQ2 at the reccomendation of WOW's billing and CS manager, who no longer is! But still, just saying, they do work together to a degree, who knows what goes on when it comes to comparing and sharing notes.)

Message Edited by Rastaah on 11-20-2006 08:51 AM

Tunare is an anagram of nature. Tauren is also an anagram of nature. Many fantasy games have similar archtypes. I doubt WoW has the precise name Tunare, but the fact that there is a nature goddess in two MMORPGs is hardly shocking.

The fact that there are geographic locations called the crossroads or the wailing caverns or caves is also not especially unusual.

It's like saying EQ2 'stole' Halflings from D&D, who 'stole' them from Hobbits. No copywrite violation there.

This is a tempest in a teapot.

And here I thought "Tauren" had more to do with the word "Taurus".

This topic is about done. WoW official lore lists Elune as the Night Elf goddess, there is no mention of Tunare in their lore.Case closed.
