Allright, Once before I'd asked about the age ranges of the races, but this is a bit different. I have this idea for a tale that explores two unlikely childhood friends - a halasian and a wood elf- particularly dealing with the effects of aging on their friendship.Imagine kids of equal age playing together in their early teens. Thirty years later, the halasian's wave has crest- his age is starting to go into his bones. His elven companion is perpetually youthful- and dealing with his first experience of a friend aging and eventually dying as he remains youthful. It will be the first of many experiences he'll encounter in the hundreds of years he will live. In his lifespan he'll see the old halasian's grandchildren be born, grow old, and die. It's the young elf's realization of that reality that I want to explore. Now, I have the age ranges of the races. What I'm wondering about are the different stages of life (infancy, adolescence, young adulthood, adulthood, middle aged, and elderly, for example). Once, long ago, some edition of D&D suggested that elves' extended lifespan expanded all stages- and they were infants for something like 15-30 years! Imagine having to care for a baby for 30 years! Later worldbooks suggested that elves matured as rapidly as man, and it wasn't until adulthood that aging slowed.<b>How has Everquest lore handled it?</b>The impact to my story is extreme- if they were born on the same day, a teenaged halasian would see an infant-toddler elf in the first extreme, a possible playmate-companion in the other.

<DIV>Elves age slower than man, which is another reason half elves dont fit in very well. Half elves mature slower than man, but quicker than elves.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Wood elves are children until around 80 or 90 years or so. After that they are a 'young adult', and at age 170 -180ish they're consitered full adults. However, like people psysical and mental maturity might come at slightly different ages for each wood elf. </DIV>

I could have a:13-15 year old Halasianand a 70-75-year old Wood elf. They would then share their "teen years" and reach an "age of maturity" relatively close together. Fifteen years later, as the halasian approaches the big 3-0, his friend will be just beginning to gain recognition as a young adult in the elven society. That brings some good "age dynamics" into it.Hmmm... I might want to adjust this further so the lads are at that age of "discovering girls" at only a few years apart...

Keep in mind that SOE hasn't actually set down in writing each individual thing regarding lore and races etc. There is still room for artistic license. For instance, a friend of mine claims that half-elves can only have children with other half-elves, and not humans or elves at all, because of the genetics. Like a horse and donkey can breed, but the offspring can't procreate with either of it's parents' species. I contend that half-elves can have children with humans, elves, or half-elves and will continue to think so until proven otherwise by a reputable source. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />On the other hand, personally I like Kami's thoughts, though I don't know where she got her information. Even if she made it up, it sounds perfectly logical, reasonable, and playable <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> In fact, I play my elves in this manner, that they mature at about the rate of humans until the age of 5 or so when it slows rapidly. This allows them to NOT be in diapers for a few decades, among other things hehe.

Always considered the laws of reproduction don't apply here- hence why Elves and Humans mix so freely. But most races are too proud or just find other races disgusting- and in some thoughts, it'd be impossible.... Half-Troll, Half-Gnome people won't happen. One...I can't really imagine it working... and two, I think the gnome would be repulsed, and the Troll would be hungry. And I agree, how could Elves claim to be intellegent and wise when they're in diapers for 30 years...? Probably age like Humans to maturity, and don't become middle aged til they start to get old by there standards.Read somewhere that there's a type of Turtle that can live to 200 or so, and I wouldn't think it'd be a baby turtle until it's 20 years old or something, or the species would of died out years ago.
