<DIV>We dont know exactly why. If you go to the lore section of this site, and read the tome of destiny it tells you there was a war going on in the Nexus of Luclin. However, when the war started the spires shut down so no one could travel there anymore. A couple hundred years later Luclin exploded, apparently from the inside (Nexus?) out, but no one knows the exact cause. The shattering, as it is called, happened about 10-15 years before EQ2 starts.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If you talk with NPCs in EQL in the Nexus they will tell you the Nexus magic is unstable and they are not sure what would happen if fighting occured in that area. Seeing as there was a huge war going on my guess is it caused things to become too unstable and boom.</DIV><p>Message Edited by Kamimura on <span class=date_text>11-16-2004</span> <span class=time_text>11:43 AM</span>

If you read the Tome of Destiny, Chapter 3, you'll find a single line:“By all the gods!” Ayenden hissed. “Those are the servants of Solusek Ro. And they seem to be carrying a massive gem of some sort with them.”(The rest is speculation from other various postings)That gem is the Dresolik, into which Solusek Ro was siphoning power from the Plane of Fire in EQLive.Rizlona, one of the mobs in the Tower of Solusek Ro drops a book. That book contains these references to Dresolik:"After many hours of incantations a great well marked with runes of fame appeared and began to pour the very essence of the Plane of Fire into The Tower. The Guardians of Dresolik, the Great Shard, watch over the pulsating crystal has it harnesses the power being syphoned from the Plane the Fire. Only time stands between us now. Those that I once walked with soon learn of the mistakes in their transgressions.""Greater fiends has been constructed by Solusek to spread their curse upon any that survive the initial destructive force from Dresolik. The seven fiends will be generals of the army being conjured by Xuzl. Solusek has also placed his trust in two elemetals. These elementals have coalesced into the form of wyverns. I must say that I am quite partial to their new forms, and have formed a kinship with them. Together with them we will exterminate any dragonkind that are resistant enough to flame to save them from onslaught that Dresolik will provide. Dresolik pulses with extreme power, it will soon be powerful enough to scorch Norrath. I can only hope that my voice and praise of Solusek will be enough to give the others the strengh needed to continue."(You can see the full text of the book here: http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=19067 )Speculation is that the Dresolik was detonated in the Nexus, causing Luclin to break apart.

You know what the bigger question I have is? Why so long..Now one possible explination is the armies which got to luclin JUST got done camping their VT keys and met the wonderfull akhevan's, and thus the big blowout... Or maybe more went on up at the moon then we know. It was never fully explained who created the portals, it wasn't the combined, they just knew alot about them. It wasn't the wisperling...<img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />Galidin

Actually, a few hundred years of camping key shards sounds very reasonable to me... when you consider they needed to bring in an entire army. God knows it seemed to take that long just for me.<p>Message Edited by Aelfric on <span class=date_text>11-18-2004</span> <span class=time_text>08:10 AM</span>

After reading the "History and Lore" section of the EQ2 site I found this small section in chapter 11 which says"She smiled faintly as she stared straight ahead with sightless eyes. "The moon was so clear. It was alive with energy flowing through every part of it. Then it was as if something in the center broke loose and leapt outward, like a bird of prey hatching from an egg. I couldn't turn away. It was so beautiful.""Makes me wonder if perhaps the armies that attacked used the nexus as a kind of birthing chamber for some creature.

<DIV>It is possable. I took that line to be more of an analogy to describe what it looked like - that it was exploding from the inside out. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Before the board wipe some others thought something might have hatched. Of course the sleeper was brought up. :smileytongue:</DIV>

<DIV>The devs at SWG were testing the second Deathstar as a way of screwing up SWG even more. Things got out of hand one drunken  night and Thunderheart said that Tatooine was far too remote to test the battlestation's awesome might,so he aimed at Luclin. Then when they sobered up they...oh who am I kidding they aren't sober yet.</DIV>
