<DIV>Hi everyone,</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>want to start a priest and eventually select shamen -> mystic, but I have some questions. Hope some of you can answer them for me.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>1. Read some posts here about wards not being that good. Is this a reason not to play a mystic or is it just a minor "annoyance"?</DIV> <DIV>2. Do shamans / mystics have some nice casting animations like druids have with the leaves swirrling about etc, because I like my spell to look "cool".</DIV> <DIV>3. I was thinking about a wood elf or a barbarian for my mystic. What do you think (fluff wise) would be a better mystic.</DIV> <DIV>4. I will be doing mainly soloing (at least till I find a nice guild or nice people to solo with). How is our dps from spells? I know I can't compare it to scouts/mages or even fighters, but are they any good at all? I know I am a healer and in groups I will stick to healing, this is just for soloing.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thanks in advance for the replies.</DIV>

<DIV>Hiya, level 37 Mystic here:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>1)  Currently, wards do leave something to be desired.  They are the least efficient type of heal, in that they only absorb normal, physical damage.  Specials, DoTs, and spell damage all go through unmitigated.  However, you'll always get full value for your mana with wards, because you can stack them on top of your target's maximum hitpoints, unlike reactive heals and regens, which are limited in their effectiveness by the amount of damage you've suffered.  Psychologically, it feels good to see your HP bar stay in the green, too.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Personally, I group regularly with a shieldless, dual-wielding Berserker, which is probably the worst healer-tank combination you can find.  The only time I have trouble keeping up is when we fight against double-up red mobs that are way beyond our level anyway, and while I do feel more comfortable with another healer in the group, I've found that a good DPS class will help just as much in that available slot.  Being that I am in the worst possible scenario and still doing well, I'm sure if you can find a Monk or a Guardian tank, your job will be easier than mine.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>2)  Our casting animations are pretty dull. :/  But the wards do look pretty.  Oh, and we get a cool snake effect with Miasma.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>3)  I chose to play a wood elf before I decided to go the Mystic route, and honestly the whole theme of shamanism doesn't fit very well in the elf motif, in my opinion.  On the other hand, it's perfect for barbarians.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>4)  I haven't played enough of any of the other healer classes to give a valid opinion, but I think shamans make better soloers than clerics or druids.  Templars get to wear heavy armor, but they lack the offensive repertoire; Furies have damage shields and offensive buffs, but druids only get to wear light armor.  Mystics sit on a comfortable median, in that they have both the better healer DoTs and the medium armor.  I've never soloed enough to have bothered to upgrade my bear-forms, but I've heard that an Ursine adept III makes a massive difference.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>i am a 35 mystic...my opinion about Mystic is: if u wanna play healer, dun choose mystic. But if u have a friend that's a Cleric or Druid, u can be a good 2nd healer, debuffers and some damage output with DoTs.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>if u had a Cleric or Druid....better give up creating Mystic <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />... they got 10+ hp/mana ratio heal...and we get 4.5 ..or less</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>**the use of Ward > RH when that mob can only use DD spells <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

But pre battle wards are very mana efficient as you gain the mana then start the fight with extra health.</P> <P>2) I love the shaman casting effects especially spirit of the ox (i think its ox at level 19) is a really kool animation plus i enjoy the 3 rings that circle you while ward is on. those look kool...Plus the gorpu heal...I can go on and on lol.</P> <P>3) it really doesnt matter on the race of the shaman as they should be pretty close in the end to health and power from race to race differentation.</P> <P>4) I solo very easily and at 24 soloing just gets much easier lol. soloed 3 level 30's at 24 in a row without any time to stop and rest. just let your dots do alot of the work cause you would be how surprised the proc holy blade or something like that deals 20+.</P> <P>Pretty much all the info i got for ya and btw they fixed the special attack passing through wards tho a few will still get through but just in the 30's-50. If you got any other questions please ask and I'm sure if I can't then someone else here can come up with an answer</P>

<DIV>Thanks for all the replies.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>My wood elf shaman (I like the character model better than the barbarian) is level 12 so far. I really like the class and can't wait till I am a mystic.</DIV>

Wards are poopy, yes.  A lot of damage goes straight through for no good reason, etc.  They are weak compaired to cleric and druid for a several reasons.  It's not the end of the world, though.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>2. IMHO shaman spells look great.  The animal forms are fun too.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>3. I like the look of my wood elf, but a barb would be cool, too.  I spend a lot of time in 3rd person view and find the large races obscure too much of the view.  Shamans spend a lot of time in animal form anyway after 20th, though...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>4. Soloing is fine for shamans.  I can do most oranges with little issue.  Grouped greens, sometimes.  ^^ greens.  I don't remember any problems at any levels soloing.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Overall, shaman/mystic work is a challenge.  We have a lot to think about and some gimpyness to overcome.  To be effective you have to use multiple Slows and debuffs and DoTs and heals and wards in various combination.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>You won't get bored, but you might get irritated hehe.  If I had my time again, I might pick druid, but I can't say I haven't enjoyed my shaman.</DIV>

<DIV>Only purpose for a scout is Tracking and disarming traps on chests.  Tracking can be overcome by a little patience, and asking around as to where your required mob is.  And traps, well, a healer can fix almost all problems incurred by a chest trap.</DIV>
