Greeting fellow Templars, Im facing the first untakable obstacle in my Templar life, the Solo arena in SP. So far i have tried it 6 times, but alas the Pit Champion holds up his name and defeats me handily. I have tried several variations, potions, mentor/unmentor but i keep ending up out of power and him on 20% hp. Currently i am lvl33 , using all adept1 spells, and have good gear, all pristine feyiron armor and yellow/oj jewelry. If any templar defeated this mongrel please enlighten me with your tactics. tricks .

It's very easy - just continue to heal yourself. Continue to cast Bestoval or Caulria if u have, hit him only with your weapon and do not waste power in smites or other damage powers. If u have Manastone, use it as fast as u can.

It will took more than 10/15 mins, but it works. I kill VD Champion with more than 20% power left and without using Radiance or Beneficience. Just continue to cast on yourself reactive cures.

I have a poison imbued cedar wand. It takes no power to cast and allows me to do okish damage, all you gotta do is get your heals in at the right time

Actually I had some problems first with this guy (I made him at lvl 40 or so) till I found out a good tactic. I had normal handcrafted non-rare equipment. What I did was NOT to melee him. I just stood there and healed myself till he ran out of power. I did not melee him because he has a nasty dmg shield. When he was out of power I just triggered HOs with my lvl 3 smite to save power and healed when needed. I had a health regen and a power regen potion, too, that I used when possible and manastone when I was pretty full on health. I always had Mark of... and Curate line up on him that did additional healing on me. Basically I juist used the lvl 3 HOs to bring him down. Tough fight but manageable. Manastone helps a lot.

Cheers,

Raga

As one poster wrote, use lvl 3 smite with HO's. Power usage is minimal and completion of the HO is the one that does the damage. And if you can afford an imbued non-legendary wand, get it and use it to save power.

I have taken him 4 times and lost once (between L28-36) I just wack him with an handcrafted imbued weapon heal and sometimes weaken him!

When I first did him I had no rare gear (now have imbued feysteel chest and legs) it is a long slow fight but no problems!

The time I lost I had changed my imbued legs for something else - VERY close fight - but I missed not having the reactive damage (this was before the Feysteel upgrade).

no potions, on mana stone!

cheers

Zugu - oggok

Here's the original strategy I posted back on July 5:

Remember, we're not a DPS class, so we have to rely on our power use. Here's what I did:

1. Acquire any possible Mana regen device you have available to you. If this is summoned regeneration items from conjurors or necromancers, or totems, or manastones, or potions, do what you can.

2. Set up your LOWEST smite spell. If you have gnoll mastery of some kind, use that also (as a bonus). Set up that lowest smite and ignore everything else.

3. Pick and choose the debuffs you have that are going to result in the best bang for your power consumption. Try to stick with spells that will lower damage upon you, or potentially lower mitigation or divine resistances. ONLY pick one or two (I used Reproach pretty much exclusively). Make sure they don't use too much power. If you can afford to use a hex totem for STR debuff, do so.

4. If you can, get a high rated weapon to use, preferably with a proc (imbued weapons work, some heritage). I use a Pristine Imbued Fulginate Battle Hammer paired with a Pristine Imbued Cedar Buckler (total cost was around 35 gold on Guk - costs tend to be lower on weekends).

5. Pick your most mana efficient healing system. For Templars, ONLY our group healing reactive spell should be used typically. It's high power use, but it's the most efficient healing method overall.

6. Make sure you have full health, power, and full healing buffs prior to the fight. (should be a no-brainer, right?)

Once you start the fight, pull with a debuff and then start using combat wheels. Trigger, smite, smite. Trigger, smite, smite. Trigger, smite, smite. You're relying upon the power of the heroic opportunities for almost all of your damage. Do NOT engage in melee up front as the champion will be using a damage shield. Wait till his power drops and his shield dissapates (you'll see it happen). Then begin meleeing in addition to the trigger, smite, smite. If you can/want to use your gnoll mastery, do so. Don't forget to cure yourself on occasion as he'll use lots of disease based DoT's throughout the fight. If you have items for regeneration of power, use those EVERY CHANCE YOU GET.

Now, this is important. Use your most efficient group reactive ONLY AT 50-60% health.

Remember, from a priest standpoint, you're on the defensive the entire fight. You're not going to overwhelm him with damage. You're going to have to wear him down...mostly with whatever melee you can muster...while you just keep yourself standing. The goal is to come up with the most efficient manner of standing longer than him, which flies in the face of the traditional melee/scout/mage tactic of dropping the enemy before he hurts you too badly.

We're priests. We heal. Use that as the basis of your tactic. It took me 5 failures to figure that out. Now, the champion drops every time for me. It takes 20 minutes each time, but oh yes, he drops...every time.

I do this tactic every time and have no probelm:

have on you a damage shield potion (mine does 14 per hit not sure name) and a power super regen potion (get the ones up in 20s a tick not 10)

Simply pop your DS potion as soon as your hit and just healyourself yourself and and use melee attacks only, it helps a lot to have an imbued weapon. when you've used about 300power pop the power regen potion this will bring you back to close to full, after this you just coninue to beat him down, usually bout the time he runs out of power he is down to 50 percent. you can nuke once he is drained of power but i dont recommend it as he will on occasional pull off couple bit melee hits requiring you to heal again.

This may be close to other's strategies, but this is how I beat him at 34.

I usually like to use intercession in all battles, even solo ( I know, sounds silly), but the individual reactive heals is most needed for this fight. Don't forget radiance when it becomes crucial. I'm almost tempted to tell you to use it at the beginning of the fight, because it is possible that the timer will be up again during the fight.

I used an alchemy potion from a guildmate that (slowly) regenerated my mana. I used at least 4 of the charges in battle (working on getting my manastone!)

I think weakening him, at least in the beginning of battle, is important. This is a luxury you can only use until about half your mana is gone.

I had auto-attack on the whole time. I have nothing fancy for a weapon, but every little bit helps.

I used regular smite, and gnoll masters smite whenever it was up.

Anyhow, yes, this fight lasted about 15 minutes for me. Basically towards the end of the fight, for me, it was me spamming my reactive heal until he was dead. And it was a close fight. Not something I plan on doing again any time soon.

Message Edited by KaryKarywooka on 09-08-2005 10:56 AM

All you need is a imbued wand to take him out.

I just heal and cure myself until hes out of mana then start using the wand and throwing a reactive up every now and then when needed.

Most of the time I end the fight at full health/mana or pretty close to it.
