I was grouping with my paladin(27) friend of mine and his wizzy(25) wife in stormhold and we ended up fighting a decent amount of grouped mob but not all. I was mentored down to the wizzy. So I ended up using my scout alot just because I didn't want for the mage pets ae's to grab extra mobs and when we were fighting singles they were often in a room with others. But it came to my realization I don't know if the mage pet AEs are encounter only or not? Anyone know? I am constantly wary of using the mage pet in groups as I don't want to bring adds. I do enough dumb stuff in game while soloing wouldn't want to get anyone else killed

None of the summoner pets (or any of the other ones) have an out of encounter AoE. You will occasionally see your pet pulling extra adds, and this occurs because one of the mobs that it has attacked is standing close to another mob, which aggros because it is social

If you feel like checking your pet spell lines yourself you can posess your pet and examinr the spells that it uses - hope this helps

Just remember:AE: area effect, inside encouter spell or CA, light blue in colorAoE: area of effect, a spell or CA that hits all mobs within a certain radius around the caster, dark blue in colorNo pets have AoE attacks without the use of AAs.

Basically what they said. But just to add - later on with Control Undeath, it seems that some of the mobs you charm can indeed use true AoE spells and pull in adds. Least I think that's what happened to me the other night... fun learning experience.
