View Full Version : For now, just revert the 1pt damage rule.

<div></div><div></div>There has been thread after thread complaining about the knee-jerk 1pt damage implementation (ok, here's another one . . . kind of).  It took SOE literally no time to put in the 1 pt change to stop afk experiencing.  Well, everyone, and I mean everyone, acknowledges that the change did not accomplish what they intended but instead had an adverse impact on the non-afk'ing player base. The following is what Xalmat said was discussed at the Summit: __________________________________________________ __ "The 1-damage rule change for pets is not working how they want. Simply put, <i><b>they put it in to stop AFK campers, and to that end it hasn't worked at all </b></i>(because they changed their strategies, such as casting a low level nuke and/or casting a low level AoE nuke). <i><b>They also acknowledge that it has harmed legitimate players.</b></i> " __________________________________________________ __ Given the above, why not just revert the 1 pt damage rule pending a resolution of the afk grinding issue?  It was put in on a moment's notice, it can be very easily be taken out just as fast.  This is an extremely easy and fast fix. I am at a further loss of words as to why this is still in the game. <P>I really love the part where NO GM OR DEV has even responded in any of the threads.</P> <P> </P> <P> </P> <P>almost like,    they don't really care........ naa they wouldn't. Would they?</P>

<P>I don't get it. Are you saying that you can no longer stand afk while getting exp, so you are mad because you can't take advantage of an exploit in the game anymore?</P> <P>No offense meant, I'm just trying to understand. I can see why they would remove this. I'd love nothing more than to stand in one spot over night and come back to exp, but other classes can't do it (that I know of), so why should pet classes be able to?</P>

<DIV>I highly doubt the OP is complaining because he was using this tactic; the problem is that the "fix" was poorly implemented.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>First, a conjuror can still afk experience by simply putting their damage shield on themselves in order to get the 1-pt damage credit while allowing the pet to actually finish off the mob.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Secondly, when fighting groups of double or triple-down arrow mobs, the pet could kill a mob quicker than the conjuror could do any damage; meaning the player would not get credit even when playing legitimately.  Granted, its easy enough to avoid this scenario, but it's still an inconvenience that doesn't solve the afk-exp problem.</DIV>

Exactly. Evii, we don't WANT afk xp, but the rule is harming us in non-afk situations by giving us ZERO xp. <div></div>

<DIV>Ok, gotcha. I agree, you do have to be quick to get your shots in there. It's not really fair that we have to do immediate AoE damage to make sure we get our exp.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>And unless we use a low-level AoE spell (that has higher chance of beiing resisted), doing an AoE too soon in battle means conjuror gets aggro.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>An aweful solution on every side...</DIV>

<DIV>now that we get more skills in bonking and poking (crushing/piercing) I  now invis and sneek up behind the mobs and whack them in the back. The new mage assassin class  <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<P>Wrong magus.</P> <P>Damage is needed to all the mobs. If you only damage one of them the only xp you get is for that one and the encounter.</P> <P>You don't get damage when the others in that grp drop.</P> <P> </P> <P>Granted: it does not need to be ae dmg if only that was what you are talking about</P><p>Message Edited by schrammy on <span class=date_text>10-12-2005</span> <span class=time_text>01:15 PM</span>

The encounter bonus is the largest chunk of the XP though. <div></div>

<DIV>The 1pt of damage in itself is not that bad. What is bad is the assignation of that 1pt of damage. Follow me here...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>You agree that a conjuror is behind his keyboard when he press the "pet attack" button...</DIV> <DIV>Also when he press his Blazing Presence Spell...</DIV> <DIV>Oh, and when he press both his swarm pet spells too...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Problem is, up to now, the conjuror did 0 damage, as all the damage is assigned to the various pets. </DIV> <DIV>Problem is, thoses are about the 3 most powerful spells in the conjuror's arsenal. </DIV> <DIV>Problem is, casting an AoE spell too soon to "tag" the mobs runs a high risk of drawing aggro. </DIV> <DIV>Problem is, changing spell order result in less efficiency for legit players.</DIV> <DIV>Problem is, by the time you get to safely cast an AoE spell, one or more of the mobs is dead just by BlazingPresence damage.</DIV> <DIV>Problem is, an AFK-er can put flameshield on himself, and he will have 1pt of damage done by simply getting hit, and then the pet will take back the aggro and kill the mob, giving full XP to the AFK-er.</DIV> <DIV>Problem is, it was acknowledged by SoE representatives at the last Summit as a solution that didn't work, AND that penalised legit players.</DIV> <DIV>Problem is, post-50 levels are soooo huge that every single tidbit of XP counts, especially for the more causual players.</DIV>

I am not sure if this theory applies to groups.  I was in a group yesterday and If I did not cast or send my pet I will still recieve EXP.  I guess it only applies to solo players.

<DIV>As I stated in another thread, I think this rule HAS been removed.  I tested it in a group and solo and I got exp without doing any damage.  I think they removed it and just didn't say anything.</DIV>

yes and no, the rule was removed if you are in a grp or raid. in solo its still in the game (or was it 12 hours ago). What i did not understand is that there are changes to this 1 point dmg rule and no offical tells us that there was changes. There is not an single message on the update notes nor in any thread i have found related to this topic. it is just a littel bit anoying to find out anything about this by try an look system. If SOE ignore our suggestens to solvethis problem, it would be nice to know what they do on this issue. <div></div>
