View Full Version : DOT stacking (post 30)

<DIV>I am currently lvl 31 and was wondering if im wasting mana stacking Melancholy , Anguish, Gloom, and Cerebral Spasm. At this lvl Gloom and Cerebral spasm are grey but still do well as a dot. Should i just be using Mel and Anguish and then HO nuking the rest whilst refreshing the 2 dots? Of course in a grp this is pointless as 4 dots will not get the full effect before the mob dies however i am referring to soloing only.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>And as a comment, anguish has a HORRIFIC casting time for what it does <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

<DIV>I would suggest dropping Gloom. Melancholy is supposed to be its replacement.  As far as anguish goes, it's the spell I cast to engage a mob when solo'ing, but then I don't cast it again.  I'd get more use out of 2 nukes that I could cast in the same time.  I never cast it in groups for the same reason.  And there are more group oriented spells that we cast as we get older anyways.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>But that's just my opinion.</DIV>

<DIV>I use 'em all.  Well, depending on the fights, I may or may not use Anguish.  I use Anguish on long fights against recently grey ^^ quest mobs, since a drained mob doesn't need to be stifled, and those fights last long enough that draining them is useful, but the power gained versus the power used does not seem to make much sense on Anguish when soloing solo XP mobs.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The only DoT I don't use any more is Static Pulse (at level 35).  I may retire Gloom at some point if I find that replacing it with a different spell (say, a different DD spell, even) is more efficient, but having it as a star-HO completer (versus having to use a short duration stun) might still have merit.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>In reply to your comment: preach on, Brother.  Virtually all of the higher level spells have horrific casting times.  How this lengthening of casting times on higher level spells equates to us becoming "more powerful" as we level is one of the Great Mysteries.  A ^^ mob could slay me in the four seconds it takes to cast a stun.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I want the Color Flux line back.  *sigh*</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>(Edit: Whoops: Was confusing Anguish with Consuming Thoughts.  Yes, I do use Anguish.)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV><p>Message Edited by Chatham on <span class=date_text>05-18-2005</span> <span class=time_text>10:45 AM</span>

<P>Since your nukes are really really really bad, there is no reason not to use gloom at 40..</P> <P> </P> <P>It debuffs mental resists by a bit, and stacks with its upgrades.</P> <P> </P> <P>The best you can do DPS wise is cast gloom, cast it's upgrade, cast the "big" nuke, cast a dot, cast belkors, then muddled thinking, and the "big" nuke again.</P> <P> </P> <P>With that you can often get above 60 dps, and 70 if you'r really lucky.</P> <P> </P> <P>In some fights you can outdamage a guardian, if he slacks alot... and usually you will be able to outdamage the healer (if they dont do AE's)</P>
