View Full Version : I thought all classes were supposed to solo equally well

I know for a fact that before EQ2 was released, I saw on their FAQ that they would make all classes able to solo equally well.  From what I have read on the other boards and particularly on this one regarding coercers, it seems to me that this is not the case.  Is this true?  I wasn't even worried about the issue when deciding which class characters to start up because I took them at their word. <div></div>

<DIV>I can take on yellow solo mobs ok.  Group mobs are out of the question (as well they should be) even though I've seen others under the Mage umbrella solo them.</DIV>

We can take groups of three easily. Cast: ae mez - single mez 1 - single mez 2 - rip on the third. Refresh mez during and after combat to recover. It only gets easier after the first! <div></div>

<DIV>Keep dreaming lol ...</DIV> <DIV>If anything goes wrong - single resist ect ... you are toast. You wont solo group of 3 (exp kind of mob) even at your 30s... Lol try complete solo Training as Sheild trials and you see what I mean...</DIV> <DIV>What we can do with some luck is solo group  of lower green from 2 mob 1 up.</DIV> <DIV>Pull with agonizing silence and immideatly charm second - from this point pretty much obvious. HO and Stifle and pray that charm stay on full duration</DIV>

<P>On the green heroic pulls - its important to be clear about which green heroics you are pulling - they arent all equal.  The ones made up of the tough mobs (++ in old con system or lots of fancy wings in new system) will toast you.  Their description says "a lot tougher than they appear" and it doesnt lie.  The ones made of up numbers of individually weak green mobs (no + symbol in old system or just a single line with no wings in new con system) we can solo because our mezs will stick and hold on the weak opponents who are individually green to us.  ESPECIALLY now that they have our group Mez working with latest patch...</P> <P> </P> <P>You can even try the blue Heroics made of numbers of single blues (again not "much tougher than they appear" blues)  if you want to be risky and are willing to be patient and have room to manuever/kite...be ready to run if it goes bad.  Basically:</P> <P>1.  Pull with AE Mez.</P> <P>2.  Mez all but one individually.</P> <P>3.  Root it with Blinding Light.  Back up.  DOT it.  Long Stun It.  Heroic Opp it with your short cast damage nukes.  Use the short stun when the long one runs out.  Use silence if it is a caster (we love casters makes this much easier).  If you get in trouble stop attacking (or just keep melee off) and Mez it.  Keep the other adds mezzed as a priority.</P> <P>4.  Keep everything mezzed while your long stuns reset.  Catch your breath.  Back up.  Repeat step 3.</P> <P>5.  On blues sometimes you can get all of them.  If you only have killed one or two and your health is too low so you dont want to risk another fight, get whats left mezd, back up, yell for help, throw invis, move on.  You still get the xp for the blues you kiiled and when you do get all of them wow its nice xp.</P> <P>Note if you havent been doing this and your melee skills arent maxed then you will have some difficulties until you get your defense and parry maxed for your level.  Also have the best AC you can.  Also if you try this with a lot of wandering aggro expect problems because it will take all your focus to run the encounter you can only really look around when you are waiting for your long duration stun to reset with everything mezd.</P> <P> </P> <P>They key is to focus on the groups made of up of number of weak mobs not the groups made up of tough mobs.  The heroic groups are NOT all equal within the same color.  Avoid the things that con with wings!</P>

<DIV>jimmyth you should say ...</DIV> <DIV>if you are lvl 20 coercer then "incert discription about your method" ... Once you are in your 30s attacking group of greenies with will cause you exp debt. All our roots cast time 3.0s, all our short duration stuns cast time 4.0s, primary stun not stack with mez you know it right?</DIV> <DIV>Dont get me wrong with some luck you can solo during whole career greenie 2 arrow up - its just take helua time. Because you gota do Mez-HO kiting</DIV>

<P>It's a nice strategy really, it can work allmost to lvl 30.</P> <P> </P> <P>(It hurts when the mobs get to lvl 25 and have a chance to barrage)</P> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>After 30, you no longer have a short stun, your damage is rather pitifull, your root is really really bad (long cast time, fast breaks)</DIV>

I have to disagree with Orki and Tanatus if they are referring to groups of 3 green mobs or even pairs of green one up arrows. At 33 I was happily killing all sorts of mobs (in particular the giants) in TS using a method similar to this. [I don't bother with the AE mezz since I have 2 usable mezzes against these mobs.] Note these are just above gray mobs [1 or 2 levels]. At 33 with maxed defence and orange armour green melee mobs do not hurt much. <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>You do have to pick your mobs with a little care [or as I do by trial and error, especially error <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> ].</DIV>

<P>Now, go try on a mob where both your short duration stun, and blinding light doesnt work anymore. then it's game over for that tactic.</P> <P> </P> <P>Sorry, cant remember the exact level where those mobs turn grey, i generally hunted yellow+ mobs in groups, since soloing was NOT efficient.</P> <P> </P> <P>All classes soloes equally...  atleast you can spend an equal amount of time doing it, but the rewards are far from equal.</P> <P>(now, go solo an even con group mob like your illusionist cousins)</P> <P> </P>

<DIV>At level 33, I could solo a yellow mob (not all of them, but some) most of the time.  Caster, or melee didn't matter, as long as my stuns and stifles would hit without resists (Adept 1 on both, so they work, for the most part).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>But,</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>One resist during the entire battle can kill me.  If the mob gets a stifle or a stun off, I'm dead before I can act again.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>One death = 1-2% xp debt.  One yellow solo mob = 0.25% xp?  0.15%?  0.10%?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>It's not very efficient, to say the least.  On a good solo night, when I have a lot of smaller quests to do (explores, kill counts), I can get 25-30% in 4-5 hours of grinding them out.  In a good night grouping, doing a couple of involved quests, 60% is not out of the question.  (My best night was the first Nek Castle run, 97% of level 31.)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>We CAN solo.  Just not fast, or well.</DIV>

<DIV>Im lvl 39 Coercer and I cant solo ANYTING anymore. 25-32 was no prob but at lvl 39 soloing is a joke!</DIV>
