Analogy:

At present it would take 3 warlocks casting (AE) Nil Absolution(1650 avg. damage) to efffectively kill 1 mob a single wizard could kill with (DD) Ice Comet (4750 avg. damage) in the same time frame.

Has to be AE vs. DD cause warlocks dont have a high enough dd anymore.

This is best case scenario on beta atm.

You're analogy isn't exactly correct If the mob has 5k hit points say, then the Wizard will kill it in 6 seconds and 455 power (4 Sec IC (4500) plus 2 sec Sunstrike (1000) ). It will take one Warlock 10 seconds, two spells and 543 power (4 sec cast on Dev plus 6 sec for full damage (3500), during the 6 seconds cast Null Distortion (2000)) to get the same effect, so you don't have to involve Nil Absolution at all. However if the mob has 10k hit points - then roughly Wizard takes 13 seconds, 3-4 spells and 1096 power to kill (4 second cast from IC (4500) + 4 second cast from ST (3000) + 3 sec BoI (2000) + 2 sec Sunstrike if necessary (1000)). The Warlock takes circa 18 seconds, 6 spells and 1331 power to kill (4 sec Dev (3500) + 3 sec Null Distortion (2000) while Dev is ticking + 2 sec Soul Flay (1000) while Dev is ticking + 4 sec Nil Absolution (2000) + 2 sec Thwart (1500?)+ 2 sec Ice Flame (800?)). Now before anyone jumps down my throat these are very very approximate numbers and the more I look at the spell list I'm sure that there's a more efficient Warlock spell cycle. I'm more than open to being corrected on them, but as a general guideline they show what's going on For a 5k mob the Warlock will take approx 50% longer and use 19% more power in the process. For a 10k mob the Warlock will take approx 38% longer and use 21% more power in the process.

Message Edited by Magiocracy on 08-23-2005 11:53 AM

At adept 3 I believe Ice Comet will hit for 5K maximum with the new combat changes and so far I have yet to achieve the max unless the mob has been debuffed by not only me but others as well. I would wager that 4K or even less will be the average. FYI I have Ice Comet adept 3 now which hits for a max of 3657 (3 sec cast time), I usually only achieve 3K and that is after I cast (piercing icicles 2 sec cast time adept 3), icy coil (2 sec cast time adept 3), and icy wind (3 sec cast time adept 3) and I still only get 3K damage after 10 seconds worth of casting. If I don't debuff at all, I get about an average of 2K-2.2K on a hit if it is not resisted. That is also at adept 3 quality. I seriously doubt 4750 is an average and with our 2 debuffs getting linked it will be even less than that.

Message Edited by Conequis on 08-24-2005 09:01 PM

Message Edited by Conequis on 08-24-2005 09:02 PM

This is from Beta when grouped with a guildie wizard. We spent some time just blasting yard trash on the beach. He never debuffed and was getting pretty high numbers.

Warlocks = dead class as a wizard is a much better substitute. AE (which is about 15-18% behind warlock damage tested at level 50) and DD (polar opposite of warlock) to boot.
