what are tainted essence and how are they used?

Sk's have a buff called tainted caress which gives a 2% chance when hit or when hitting to yield a tained essence. current the essence is used as a reagent for the dumbfire pet but is being removed next patch. the buff will no longer yield the essence and the pet will no longer consume one when cast.

And as it looks now it will be removed in Lu26, so don't worry about it too much.
