![]() I just want to make my opinion official so the devs can see what I think. If you aggree, that's fine. If you don't that's fine. I've played to level 31 SK so far. Harm Touch is useless does less than 10% dmg to aggro. Pet is useless, can't control, need special essence (Why should an assassin get a controlable pet and not an SK?), has short timer, it's a wuss. The life tap procs are worse than it EQ1 and they were weak then too. The life tap spells are about equivelent but they were weak in EQ1. The horse sucks. I just slip on my jboots from the character creation prepurchase plan. I at least can throw those on as i'm running. When i have peak armor an stats, a brawler 2 levels below me can solo stuff better. Has anyone had a successful FD? I'm trying to figure out what makes a shadow knight interesting or special from any other tank. I liked it better in EQ1 when they were not really tanks. I feel like the devs let me down on my favorite class. :smileysad: Message Edited by Kinvenu on 04-11-2005 09:59 PM |

I use harmtouch all the time, and its very useful for soloing and taking caring of mobs when adds come and you need to finish the fight faster. I'm not really into comparing classes(never played assassin) so i'll just mention that the pet does a considerable ammount of dmg in long fights, and it also better dps/power then our dots. (maybe you just need to upgrade to adept1?) I dont think you'll get any sympathy *(from the devs) when you try to compare classes to eq1 classes, as this is intended to be a VERY different game. lifetap spells too weak? perhaps, although when they get around to looking at shadowknights specifically i'm sure they'll address this. but its really not THAT bad :p I agree the horse is misleading, it should have 0% runspeed so its a complete fluff spell. heh, at least they gave it 10%.... although this issue has been beaten sooo much I won't bring it up here. I've never had any trouble tanking difficult encounters through my level (42+ levels), so i'm not sure what you expect... someone can tank better then you? perhaps you should try different tactics. never been an issue for me. Graven Embrace works for me often enough for me to try it everytime i want to save myself a long run away from a spawn. /shrug What makes a shadowknight interesting or special from other tanks? Well, havining some friends with different fighter classes, i'd say we have a lot of neat and usefull spells: Pet (very useful in long encounters for DPS) Ward(very useful for regaining agro and helping group). Our stat buff is also pretty neat (agi, sta AND str). evac at 44(WOOT!) our fun spells are arguably some of the best (FREE UNIQUE HORSE, Squire(at 40), and evil glowing hand (at 50). We tank well, we play backup tank well(Grant armor, evasive buff). I enjoy the shadowknight in EQ2, and i'm telling you from 31 it just keeps getting better.... although it seems like you want eq1 shadowknight, and its just unrealistic given the design of this game  dunno.... hope you find a class you enjoy.

![]() Well, haveing not played eq1 i can't give a good comparison, but i have played my SK in eq2 to lvl 44 so far, and i have to say that when duoing i find my lifetaps to be very good, to the point that with my 2boxs wards and the lifetaps for any damage that does blow by them, i don't need to use a heal even when fighting grp mobs allmost my level. As for other things mentioned, HT is VERY usefull as an emergency taunt, just slam that on a mob and hit rescue and its all yours again (if you had only just lost agro). When you stack the lifetaps (grp lifetap proc, periahs mark, etc) and maybe throw in an imbued BP things really look up for SK, the constant flow of healing is great. Feign death works fine, use it very often, of course, i spent the time harvesting and got an adept3 of it.... About the only downside to the class is its allmost complete lack of sense in a raid, not enough armor/taunt to MA, not enough DPS to warrent kicking an assasin out, although the grp lifetap makes includeing a SK in a mainly DW grp good.

![]() If you wanna compare EQ1 vs EQ2 SK? Fine, I'll compare 1. Harmtouch: EQ1 = EQ2. Resistance factor in EQ1 is alot better but EQ2 has 50% faster recast and MORE damage so its toss-up. 2. FD: EQ1 > EQ2. FD in EQ1 has much, much faster recast and simple press of a key to FD. EQ2 needs to target yourself then FD (can do macro to do it easier) but EQ1 doesn't need macro to do that. EQ2 FD, if it fails, you are doomed or must run for your life.. 3. Ward: EQ2 >>> EQ1: Skin line in EQ1 outright suck.. Ward owns in EQ2 PLUS targetable to other player in group. 4. AE: EQ2 >>> EQ1: AE in EQ1 is just JOKKKKEEE!!!! AE in EQ2 just owns. 5. Invisibility: EQ1 >>>>>>>> EQ2: Simply because SK EQ2 doesn't get it. But seems that SK gets evac instead. I would prefer inv over evac. 6. Evac: EQ2 >>>>>>>> EQ1: Simply cuz Sk EQ1 got no evac at all. 7. Lifetap: EQ1 > EQ2: LIfetap in EQ1 is VERY hard to get resisted and does equal amount of damage and heal equally. EQ2 has half-arsed lifetap that can be resisted and does partial heal for the damage done on mob. 8. Horse: EQ2 = EQ1: Horse in EQ1 is outright FAST short of bard speed and pretty cheap to get it. However, remember.. We can't get that horse TIL we are lvl 59.. EQ2 Sk got it EARLY at lvl 20 with bonus of 10%. I'm sure when we hit lvl 60 or something, we would get fast horse as well. If true then EQ2 > EQ1 simply cuz we can get weak horse earlier. 9. Tank: EQ1 = EQ2.. Remember It's level 50 not 70.. Warrior at lvl 50 isn't much diff from SK at lvl 50 for tanking power. The hp gap wasn't that big. EQ2 Sk tank power for AC and Hp is under fighter archtype so didn't have any real difference from guardian/zerkers. Spells alone determine the tanking power that makes guardians > Sks plus tower shield they can use. 10. Snare: EQ1 = EQ2.. Darkness line in EQ1 owns. High % snare and LONG duration. HOWEVER Dreadful wrath has nice dd damage PLUS can snare ON the run which is a plus as well but low snare %. It's toss-up. 11. Fear: EQ1 > EQ2.. Simply cuz EQ2 SK doesn't get any fear. 12. Pet: EQ2 > EQ1.. You hear me RIGHT!! EQ1 SK pet at lvl 50 is OUTRIGHT laughable. Sure, wimp skelly can follow you around all the time but it did HORRIBLE damage to mob due to very low level it has relative to mob you are fighting and its hp is soo weak and can get killed in very few hits.. EQ2 pet we got owns, it dishes DECENT damage and its hp is decent and its level is same as ours as a trade off for shorter duration. We don't need to buff up our pet. We just call it up and let pet to dish some damage. My single gripe is that pet can be resisted and we have to wait 20 seconds I think to re-summon pet. EQ1 SK pet at lvl 68 is pretty NICE tho but we are not lvl 70 in EQ2 YET to compare so HAS to compare against lvl 50 SK in EQ1. 13. Taunt: EQ1 = EQ2. I think taunt power is basically the same between both EQ1 and EQ2 for lvl 50 Sk.. Could hold mobs on us most of the time. Lvl 70 SK in EQ1 owns for taunt tho. 14. Weapon selections: EQ1 > EQ2... We can't even pierce or polearm (lance), we can't use any bows. EQ1 SK can use those as well as axe, crush and slash weapons.. Overall, SK in EQ2 is pretty good and has lot of similiarites with EQ1 but they also have their own unique SK design in EQ2 such as new evac. Some stronger areas, some weaker areas than EQ1 counterpart.. EQ2 SK surely has high potential for improvement instead of any nerfs like improvement on lifetaps, FD, etc then Sk EQ2 will get alot better. I think I cover most key parts of SK. |

Harm Touch while not useless is definately not class defining as loh is, unless they start making loh resistable. I have a master 1 Maleific Touch (highest hit 1614 give or take 20 hps) against the ++ mobs this isnt much but as far as a taunt it is pretty decent (ht in eq1 provided next to nothing as far as aggro management was concerned), its still resisted way too often considering i only cast it after my disease debuff (even against [Removed for Content] greens)
The pet as mentioned isnt 'useless' but rather disappointing, in graphic, but consider we at least get a down arrow even con pet that is capable of far better damage if only for a limited time then the sk pet from eq1 i remember ole kabober from eq1 maxing at 64 or so damage with double hit, while some pet buff spells would be nice. Albeit my view is slighted from my time when i could bring both the blob and the bird out, give me a pet buff and a shadowmen graphic and im very happy with my pet.
Ill agree wholeheartedly so long as paladins can run alongside sks and at times outdps at a lower power cost our taps are a joke they need to scale 50% better from app 1 to master 1 in fact id be interested to see the differance between them.
Horse is supposed to suck, its not supposed to be a beneficial spell, its missing alot of graphics and incomplete, the only use for me as a DE is to make me feel taller. The differance you are going to see with a brawler is they already have a buckler automatically added to their stats as far as AC and in my opinion a wider variety of useful combat arts (particularly sub level 30 for sk), they simply solo in a differant way then us, and in my opinion a better way but thats the way the cookie crumbled, our solo method seems more like an exploit and an assassins solo method. But believe me if you have the free time we solo better, for now anywho. FD is faulty in description... and thats all I will say, then again alot of our spells our, give it time to shake out before judging them. I look forward to an update note of grim harbinger the next 7 patches too. What makes us special... lack of flavor we are the blandest tank out there as far as skills go we need some spicy misses dash added to us.

![]() I have yet to meet a single EQ SK who prefer the EQ2 SK. You're right. They've stripped us of all of our old utility spells. One of the things I enjoyed most about the EQ SK was that there was a strategy involved in playing the class. The dynamics of the game were different, but at least there was strategy beyond mashing blinking buttons. Pulling and splitting required skill. And if you knew how to work Death Peace and your Circlet of Shadow, you could split just about anything. And wasn't there such a sense of accomplishment when you got that named alone? And you can make fun of him all you want, but our old pet, Jabober, with the compliment of Pet Discipline AA worked wonders for pulling certain mobs. Aggro kiting with snare, DoTs and the pet was also a thing the EQ SK shined at doing, not to mention fear kiting mobs below level 54. It was just damned hard to kill a EQ SK. If things went bad you could usually save yourself with Death Peace, your Circlet of Shadow or Harmshield—wasn't it great to have an invulnerability spell? Even that had its utility purposes. I would solo mobs in The Deep and use Harmshield to jump to the bottom of the pit unharmed. And then, of course, we had Bobbing Corpse, which was levitate, enduring breath and posion resist all in one. Hell, being able to Sense the Dead and Locate/Summon Corpse was damned handy to have. I haven't a bloody clue as to what the developers thought when they were re-designing this class, or any of these classes for that matter. Why would an Assassin have a pet and a Shadowknight be able to evac? Why would a Berserker be able to equip a tower shield and a Shadowknight only a kite? What happened to the notion that Shadowknights could manipulate the dead or have advantages over them? Lucan's Pact turns us into a skeleton. Wow. We are the recipients of very, very poor implementation. |

![]() I played SK as my main in both EQ1 and EQ2. They are, as we all know, very different games and they are very different classes. I have not have the problems the OP is describing. Maybe try upgrading your spells if you have not already. From EQ1, I do miss the Darkness and Fear lines - fear kiting was a nice way to solo when I could not find a group or when I just feel like soloing. FD was different in EQ1 and arguably better. If you like the class, keep playing and read up on the tactics on the boards. Tactics are definitely different in EQ2 because....its a different game. Otherwise, as we were fond of saying on the 3rd party SK boards back in the day, go roll a druid.

![]() Hehe Hello? The list you mentioned is >lvl 50. SK in EQ2 didn't reach that yet.. SK in EQ1 DOESN'T have pet disc, bobbling corpse, death peace, NO skeleton form pre 50, NO horse at all, horrible pet. I play EQ1 SK for 6 years and LOVE it. HOWEVER I HAVE to keep in mind that you have to compare at lvl 50 NOT at lvl 70. We got spoiled by EQ1 SK completely when we are at 70. WAIT and see how our SK EQ2 TURNS out at lvl 70 tho with all cool AA's. Just relax. Corpse summoning is what NO one has in EQ2.. Mob splitting that needs FD+invisible or pet pulling isn't even required in EQ2 cuz of more simplier pulling set-up in EQ2 that easily can split without the need of FD or any tricks. That sure requires less skill to do. I love hard methods of pulling that makes experienced SK to be different from inexperienced SK in EQ1 but we don't have to do that in EQ2 at all so any tanks can pull instead of relying on monks and Sks only.. Tanks are supposed to pull and engage mobs in the first place. Levitation IS Not in game at all so everyone can't have an access to it so don't blame that SK got stripped by it. EVERYONE got stripped by it.. Our horse.. We got it MUCH earlier than we got in EQ1.. Sure, its slower but alot earlier, EQ1 SK got first horse at lvl 59. I'm more than confident that we will get UPGRADED horse post 50 when expansion or 2 hits. NEXT TIME.. if you wanna compare SK in EQ1 and EQ2, KEEP in mind its lvl 50 NOT lvl 70. Don't get spoiled. I just play both to enjoy both SK worlds. Why not? |

![]() This is just the humble opinion of a 65/200 AA sk from eq and a level 47 slacker sk from eq2. You will of course find much higher leveled sks from both floating around here

![]() It can be a mistake to compare the two games. If you really wanted to be fair you would have to compare the first installment of EverQuest, sans expansions, to the first installment of EverQuest II—the latter wins, hands down. But why do the classes have to be so damned bland from the start? It seems aparent that little thought went into the Shadowknight of EverQuest II, especially from a role-playing perspective: I fail to understand why the class is given a spectral bird as a "pet," or why the class can cast an evacuate-type spell. They may as well have given Shadowknights the ability to cast spells increasing run and attack speed, while they were at it. |

![]() I did forget the wards. The wards at least up to level 30 are comparable with a level 20 shaman ward that I know of. Although this is a redeeming factor for me, I did not select to play a paladin. The FD is most usefull to me when I need to kill a teammate to get the aggro off (rarely used that way but it's effective). That part I do like but, it's never really worked for soloing yet. I liked the idea of feeding off the engery of my prey via lifetap spells and procs. By level 40 in EQ1 my CHA was negative five (-5). I had to do a strip tease for vendors and carry a couple +CHA items to help. This probably made me more of a roleplayer than anything else. Oh and I do miss my circlet of shadows so much.

Version 1.0 though. And only usable by DE SKs )
BTW my whine...well looks like they adjusted content towards inferior classes in yesterdays patch instead of upgrading them.
