I have decided on a monk to play, and I know race is all about how “pretty” it looks vs stats as they all max out anyway.

I have decided on either a Gnome or a Froglok monk, my question is which looks better with animations and wearing armor and which just looks dumb.

I would like to hear from those monks who thought a “ X race” would look great but are really disappointed with the choice and would prefer Y.

Anyone who plays a gnome monk, be it for appearance or stats, needs to go hang themselves. They're a disgrace to the game. Go with Froglok if you must, but just stick with Humans since they're the best anyway.

I always had something against playing a human race in a fantasy world... just seems so everyday and dull.

I'm biased as Humans were the only ones who could play as monks in EQlive before Ruins of Kunark came out, and even then it was restricted to only Humans and Iksar (Humans were still statistically superior.)

Add to the fact that the Gnome, Dwarf, and Halfling models in EQ all had Palsey. They couldn't turn thier heads at thier neck. They had to twist thier waists. They were just... Ugly and most players who were gnomes were quite often jerks.

Gnomes Suck.

Go Froglok. They're so cute when they do those karate-moves... they kinda throw themselves around in the air, where other races just do dull spin...:smileyhappy:

I've enjoyed studying gnome fu SMILEY  With that said, frogs get a unique set of animations and have some pretty cool looking moves.  Gnomes have the same animation set as all other races.

edit - If you are sensitive to your screen bobbing, you ay not want to play a frog.  I had a friend try a frog monk, and she ended up deleting the toon because hopping everywhere and the associated screen bob made her sick.

I assume such posts are made because people like to stir the anthill SMILEY

Aesthetics are aesthetics and as such no one else can answer that question (although the Froglok animation thing is a good point).

Personally, my opinion (for that's all it is) is that EQ2 Froaks are unsatisfying... they are all melty and unfinished looking.  Although someone already took umbrage to EQ1 comparisons, I can't help it... EQ1 Frogs had a better overall look and didn't have some sort of spinal issue.  Again... just my "aesthetic".

Gnomes are grumpy punks... I can't seem to make one look pleased.  I like the IDEA of a gnome, but the actual end result is always slightly grim.  And the way they look in a unitard is... well unsatisfactory will have to do.

I chose a Rat and had her betray.  Yes, her.  This is the first transgender toon I've ever played, but its because the Femme Rats are much better looking.  Much.  She's rather (dare I say it) cute, and always has my girlfriend awwing over her (which isn't so bad).  Ogres look good too, but so far I am not missing being over-large.  I've played an Ogre for years, and its actually refreshing to fit under things when I want to.  Only issue now is fighting giants and looking straight up into an eyefull of giant junk.  But you have to take the good with the bad I always say.

Anyway, choose a toon and play it.  If you decide the aesthetic is off, delete it and start over again.  Other than the suicide notes the toons write one another as they pass their life savings onto other members of the family, its alot of fun to boot.  "Dear Oogie, please take this 12 silver and spend it on something nice... the maker has decreed I'm not pretty enough so... I'm leaving Norrath forever.  Kiss your kids for me."

Enjoy!

As for screen bobing you don't wanna play a froglok in 1st person. I never use 1st person anyway.
