When raiding, does the Raidleader ever ask anything of you other then get on the raid mobs behind and swing your weapons?  I am wanting to get a feel on the kind of jobs that monks are asked to accomplish by the raid leaders when going in places in the T7 realm.  I have a feeling there is a continuum, where you have raid forces that pretty much allow the Main tank guard to do all the taunting, pull all the aggro etc, and on the other end of the contiunuum there may be raiders that allow monks, or berzerkers, other guards etc... to pick up the slack on mobs that lose aggro.

My interest lies in the Monk's jobs.  Please post if you can say "hey my MT and Raidleader won't even let me FD pull in areas where 2 encounters are very close together" or "my MT and RL let me help in x y and z."

I want to get a feel for the Monks out there and what kinds of things they do in raids.

Thanks

You wont be fd pulling in this game, unless its pulling the mobs then fd'n after mt tank taunts.  Not really same as eq1's pulling tricks.

You will Tsunami pull.

You will have to make a decision when to group fd or not.

and this is kinda general for groups and raiding, i dont raid much so maybe others can help with that.

Well, I am one of 2 raid leaders for my guild, so that may affect my answer.

I frequently do FD pulls to split multiple encounters.  There are also certain situations where it can make sense to move names aside to allow the raid to pass and clear other things.  I can do that by dropping raid and pulling with tsunami/outward calm.  Those and our 5% in combat run speed buff allow us to stay alive longer than just about any other single puller.  (In some situations, pet classes can do better, but that results in certain death for them.)

I also have a macro for corraling mobs that go for casters - rescue; tsunami; outward calm.  Since I am always in the melee DPS group, that yanks the mob back to right in front of the MT who can then retaunt, followed by my FD.

Fall of the Phoenix will also make you an incredibly popular groupmate on raids.  Just be sure not to pop it too early. :smileywink:

Hope this helps.

Like Morrolan, I am one of the raid leaders for my guild.

Actually, everything that Morrolan stated is what I do on our raids, though I might off-tank an add or two, if needed.

The only trick to feign pulling during a raid is you shouldn't be in the MT group and everyone in your group should drop any aggro producing buffs on you -- reactives, wards, regens, stoneskin, etc.  Straight buffs and procs are usually alright.

Yeah - we can definitely offtank as well.  So happens that we have a very strong backup tank (zerker) who is virtually always at our raids, so he does most of that.

Sometimes I am put in a tank group when it comes to certain mobs that do a massive debuff and one shot our tanks.  So when plate tanks aren't readily available I get thrown out there from the start rdy to hit rescue if needed.  And a few epics out there that I'm always in a tank group for....it just really all depends I suppose on how the raid leaders want it.  In T6 I was pull bitc* T7 I'm pick up slack bitc*

Main task for me and our other guild brawler (a bruiser) is avoidance to MT or OT.  And pulling.  I also have the job of being the guild MA but that's unrelated to the class.

If your guild has a Pally there really is no need for a brawler to ever offtank.

Other than that your light DPS.
