short answer: sure, plenty of times where d/w or 2h is beneficial

Now there have been changes made available with AA's that are making the use of shields/bucklers even more viable, however your average legendary 1h weapon is sporting probably a dmg rating of around 55-60. your average 2h is around 70 and d/w around 35-40. Obviously when soloing, you'll want to kill the mob as fast as possible, meaning you should put dmg output ahead of controlling damage intake. When you have a healer present and others around to do the dmg before you, you'll want the reverse.

using a 2h or d/w when 1) soloing or 2) your group is a lil light on dps and you have someone in group to haste you are the ideal times.

i do know however that there are plenty of players who will use a sword and board every waking minute, just because they feel it's how a guardian should play. no real right or wrong answer but if you can afford to take a little more dmg and want to up your dmg output, use that 2h or d/w.

edit: make no mistake about it, we'll never be dps'ers (short fights, aye, maybe) but i know i like to feel like i'm contributing w/ some dmg sometimes.

When I am tanking I use sword and shield..

When you are in a group with a higher level tank type and they want to tank. I kinda welcome the break from tanking and enjoy using my toys once in awhile and just do as much damage as I can. In these situations, I go offensive and break out the 2 Hander Or DW.. just depends on how I feel at that time. It may not happen that often but it does to me occassionally.

Since i got myself a good crush 1 hander, 65ratio, its all I am using with my shield, because of Belly smash. I strongly recommend it.

you can also get a good 2h crushing and setup your shield on your hot bar to use belly smash, it works but a bit of a pain i find.

There was a period there when I had two good (very fast) dual-wield weapons and with just the taunt line turned on I could hold aggro with the worst of dps classes with little or no taunting. We were primarily fighting casters and the avoidance from the shield is wasted on casters. Also if you have a monk or other class that is giving you avoidance your shield can be overkill.Only Purely raiding tanks will spout only fighting with shield and 1handed. Now T7 there are some really good one handed weapons so I also have been fighting with sword and shield lately but if mobs are not hitting me I frequently switch to 2-handed or dual wield.ThxDa Nah OgazamiOgazami Splitpaw 64 Guardian - Truewatch

Raiding:  Obviously tower shield + 1 hander
Grouping: Almost always tower shield + 1 hander
Soloing: I used to DW, but now I use my kettleleader's katana (2h) - depends on gear

Basically I pick my soloing setup to optimize my damage output so I can prevent keyboard damage (from my head hitting it as I pass out bored to tears watching our "DPS" whittle down the mob)

With Underworld Leggings (T5 Fabled - 10% chance to proc 33% DPS increase for 18 seconds), +STR gear, rank 5 Acceleration Strike AA (30% haste from that, another 15% from FBSS) and Kettleleader's I can actually do some fairly respectable DPS for a fighter.

I'm fond of dual wielding when I am fighting things I know I can beat.  I always have a small bag opened w/ my twr shields and a 1 hander in it just in case i get more adds than I can handle dual wielding, or have that uh oh feeling all I have to do is double click the shield to equip and walla!

of course there is always the guardian evac that I do in KOS... run for the edge as fast as possible

LOL - So true....But Rorrak has it correct and most likely a standard for any Guardian worth his/her salt.
