Haven't lost aggro in 3 days with a new combo that I cast every time I pull.

I don't even have to retaunt but maybe once or twice in a tough mob.  (This combo does not work for epic mobs because of Smothering Cry).

Here is what I do:

Pull the mob with an arrow
When they get close enough I case Smothering Cry (adept1) followed by Deafen (adept1) making sure both are successfully cast
Then I switch to Melee Combat and cast Taunting Assault (making sure it goes off as well).
Once that spell hits, I cast Call of Protection.

This seems to [Removed for Content] them off enough that I don't lose aggro even with a few nukers on board.

Try it out and let me know what you think.

I do like this.

Pull with Anchor, Cancel Anchor, Protect, Taunting Assault, Tremor, Call of Command, Retaliate then I start cycle the 1 mob taunts.

Edit: I mean Commanding Presensce not Call of Command

Edit 2: Talking about group encounter, not single target.

Commanding Presensce will get you exponentially (or close enough) more hate than any of your other buffs, so use that instead of the ones you're using.

So that means:  Entrench then Commanding Presence?

lol i ussually start casting commanding presence run up to tha mobs get a few power clicks since it dont put me in combat, then after i position them i just drop HTL (yeah i still use it). Now start a HO use ferocious charge (preferably ona  mage foe cause it might stifle mobs)to advance so now the HO is up for completion then i use taunting assault this is great to have HTL proc with taunting assault then i do tremor still with HTL on and the stun effect is amazing also the dot now that it gotten fixed so that a major hate build.

After all that it depends on the group setup what i cast i hardly ever use protect unless i have a warlock or a zerker in the group. I guess i got used to not using it cause of it not being able to affect epics (CRY). Anyways if ya think the hate isnt enaugh drop protect on the group encounter (we are talking about groups of 5+ mobs right) and just rinse and repeat the above while HTL is on for 3 min. ooh and also if yer speed pulling b4 ya start bashing the last mob cancel HTL so ya can get the recast done b4 next pull!

BTW HTL isnt always needed i use it as an insurance it helps a lot at adept 3! i think i made a post about several ways to hold agroe somewhere dont recall where i left it or under what name it was on. If there is anyone who knows can always post here to help this young guardian out wiht some new ideas.

AOE taunts on a single mob is a waste of time. At level 45 you have 5 single taunts you can use. If you ever, ever lose aggro on a single mob (who doesn't have a aggro wipe skill like kdal), you suck. (the buff thing to hold aggro is cute at 25, totally unessary on linked mobs at 45).

I like to pull with anchor (huge range) then immediately use commanding presence while I wait for them to get in range, then start unloading taunts. Works well both in and out of raid situations, for me at least. In some situations like King in CL, I will run up to add (while having king on target) get in agro range cast Commanding presence then run back to position the mob and unload taunts pending on mob count, mob levels, ect...

Love this combo. I do prefer the bow if the mob is in range or if the mob isn't in the middle of a pathing crowd (then anchor wins). When I pull with the bow, I seem to get a hugely increased chance of the PGT or my shield or greaves to proc immediately. Nothing like starting with a ward for several hundred points or extra damage.

I normally use Smothering Cry even when soloing for the DPS reduction and stifle

As far as I understand it, it's not a resistable thing, whereas melee skills can be.

A) Is smothering resistable?

B) Is there a better combination I should be using for the same effect (I'm usually not worried about aggro when I'm soloing just  MOB DPS reduction)

The dps reduction of smothing cry is so small.. just use a shield bash for a .1 second stun and some damage.. our aoe taunts arent as useful when solo as say a bruisers jeer.. as the added effect is rather small. (no idea if it is resistable, the effect is small enough it is hard to parse/notice)

What are you trying to solo you need smothing cry? I have never found an orange or lower solo mob, or a blue or lower melee ^^ mob I could not just walk up to and beat the tar out of, without taking much damage (even in my gimper fulginate days)

Usually it's the Epic ^^'s that I use it on, that or groups of mobs that I fight solo.  I just guessed that the DPS reduction on 4 mobs would be worth it.  Parsed with Yalp all the time in EQ1, but honestly havent even attempted parsing in EQ2 so I'll take your word for it.

Thanks
