Guardian and General Mellee questions

Hello all!

Im new to the game about 4 days in, im currently a fighter working towards guardian and i had a few questions that i couldnt find answers to.

1. Guardians can duel wield with apropriate weapon types? but most chose to use 1hander and shield for tanking and 2 handers for DPS when not MT?

2. Mellee skills ie...slashing..blunt....go up regardless of what type of slashing weapon i am using i get skill for all types. what i dont understand is why there are different weapon types in my skill section?

hmmm guess thats it thought i had more. thanks for any replies i get.
