Fan Faire and kids

Hey all, I have been a player since EQoA for the PS2. We moved from the PS2 to the PC when EQ2 came out and this is the first year we will have the funds to attend the event.

Has anyone ever brought thier kids to the Fan Fair? My daughter is 12 years old and once I told her we were planning on going she got all excited and really wanted to go. She does play some, but her highest level toon is 15

How many kids were running around there last year? Is the event kid friendly?

I'm not certain about the event, as this will be my first also. But um...Vegas, isn't really all that kid friendly, no matter what they try and say.

there were a few kids here and there, but last year a few of the events you needed to be at least 21 to attend because of where they were held. Like the voodoo lounge and the pool party. Though i have to agree Vegas is not really kid friendly in my opinion.

There likely won't be many people of her age there. It is mostly an adult event, but she'll be able to participate in the majority of things there (there are usually one or two age-restricted events, total), if she's inclined. That said, she doesn't sound very hardcore with a level 15, and likely wouldn't be that interested in gameplay panels and such.Vegas is a tourism city though, if you bring her along I'm sure you'll be able to find something that she'll enjoy when you're not at the FF, even if the majority of Vegas entertainment is adult-themed.

She will enjoy the live quest and the banquet at the very least. There are generally a good group of kids in her age bracket. It isn't huge but it does exist.

your ticker makes me cry to realize Fan faire is that far away and i already bought my plane ticket and hotel room.

LOL, just had to add.. her ticker made me cry when I found out its ONLY 3 months.. and I'm not ready with a room/plane/extra money! I need this ticker on my desktop or something to remind me not to spend money ..

Anyway, 12 year old? Idk about regular kids but when I was 12 I wouldn't be chummy with random kids at parties/social events like a convention I didn't know.. and if it was something that didn't interest me I would be bored and sit by my parents annoying them..

I doubt the panels will interest her... and I really hope there won't be little kids doing the live quest that my guild will be running over or waiting for a kid to talk to the 'NPC' for 15 minutes SMILEY

At least she's 12, anyone else reading this thread.. please.. no one bring crying toddlers or annoying children to the events like panels .. please

As someone WITH kids at home AND living in Vegas - you're dead wrong.People REALLY need to stop thinking Las Vegas is only a 6 mile long road of hotels.

I have been to 5 Fan Faires and to be honest there never really are alot of kids running around. I would find it hard to categorize the Fan Faire as kid friendly but definately would not say it is "kid unfriendly" (although you will probably get some nasty looks if you brining a screaming infant into a panel discussion room). To be honest I cant ever remember any events specifically geared towards kids if that is what you are wondering. The biggest factor as to whether your kid will be bored or not is how much they are into EQ.

As for Vegas itself there are lots of family activities and some hotels actively try to get families to stay there. Excalibur is one hotel that has lots of family friendly events and attractions. There are roller coasters at NY , NY and the Sahara .Circus circus is another family friendly venue I hear. ( I have not actually been there myself). Also seeing the Grand Canyon might make a nice day trip depending on how your kids feels about such things.Personally I have found the whole "Las Vegas being kid unfriendly" thing to be a myth perpetuated by people who spawned ill mannered, obnoxious brats whom they expect everyone else to put up with or people who when they go on vacation expect everyone around them to help watch their kids or those who let their kids wander around where kids are strictly forbidden.

How old was that papered High Elf from the EQ2 Boards when he first attended... IMO it depends on a) how mature your kid is, b) if they find "adult talk" such as discution panels on the games interesting, and c) they are confertable talking with adults, yet show the proper caution. I don't think your kid would have a problem attending, besides you don't have to attend all the panels and there are lots of Kid friendly things you can do outside of the panels.

They were awfully cute, weren't they? Those were my favorite costumes! In my particular case I *do* have to attend all the panels, it's work. If I didn't, yeah, I'd probably bring them.

Some hotels actually provide Child sitting services for a reasonable cost. Kids Quest (www.kidsquest.com) is one such service, but unfortunately the closest location to the Hilton is at the Palms Casino - Not exactly convenient. However, I am told that the Flamingo and the Venetian, both accessible from the Monorail also provide these services.

Well not sure if they still do, but IIRC All MGM/Mandalay resorts had child care at one time though not sure if they still do.

Also the Orleans, Sun Coast, South Coast and Gold Coast also offer child care (Kids Tyme).

Nevada law does require though that you have full shot records availible for the facility. Also if you have children under 2 you will have to make an appointment for care as well.
