Freezing at character creation

Whenever I try to create a new character, I can go through the entire process until I get to where I make up a name for my character, then when I submit I get the "Submitting name to server for approval", then the client just hangs up and I have to end task to get out of it. Is anyone else experiencing this or know of a fix?

I've tried this with both EQ2 Extended and EQ2 Live.
