Ok i had to install a new HD last week.  i reinstalled windows 7 64 bit.  updated it and all that.

Updated the drivers to my EVGA GTX 260 vid card.

Installed EQ2 from my SF Disks, patched.  But when i play.  i will get at completly random times and locations,  my screen will flash black and my video cards settings will drop to low power mode.  nowi have a beast 850w PSU in my computer and this did not happen at all before i reformated my comp with the new HD.

When this happens. sometimes its just a black flash on the screen then it plays normally just laggy.  other times the client will flash endlessly.  causing EQ2 to freeze on and off.  do odd things and cause major issues.  but i can still move my character,  if i turn the camera the screen will normally go abck to normal.

It just happened in my GH.  i took a telaport to the front gates.  screen went wacky and changes my cards settings.  i turned my camera all over and it did not help.  but when i ported to another area of the GH it stopped.

It happened 2 days ago in Sundered frontier infron of The Hole zone in.

The day before that in Underfoot depths.

Before that it happened in Antonica.

Its just vary random and i would like to fix it.  makes raiding hard when i don't know if my screen will go nutz causing me to need to reboot to get my cards settings back to normal

Lowering my game settings has no effect.  happened in extreme performance and on extreme quality.

Thinking about reinstalling the game.

I use Profit UI and EQ2 maps.  both are completly updated.

Since you did a fresh install of Windows 7 have you performed all the Windows Updates and installed Direct X 9.0c?  The knowledge base article below contains the version of Direct X 9.0c that EverQuest II requires to run.

Reinstalling drivers did not work.  reinstalling Direct X did not work.   i am still crashing every time i zone into my Guild Hall.  get the same message.

Nvidia Drivers have stopped responding nad have been recovered.

Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 260.99 stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

It happened 2 times in a row then stopped and i zoned in and out 3 times and nothing happened.

It makes my screens flicker (i have 2 monitors) even if EQ2 is covered with another window.  when this happens,  as long as eq2 is open and not minamized.  it bugs out,  my screens flicker,  then after about 8 seconds the driver crashs and recovers. and i can play fine in the area i was in.  till i rezone in and it will ether happen again or not.

Have you perchance tried rolling back your drivers for the vid card to an earlier version? The ony reason I think of this was that one version of NVIDIA drivers released in the lst few months was a disaster and caused overheating and errors in fan control in a number of video cards (it fried one of mine) - I am sure they replaced it by now but still one never knows!?

The driver I believe you are referring to is 197.65.  It is a good suggestion to try a different driver if you notice problems with the one you are currently using.

Yes, install that version if you did not have a problem with them previously.

Update.  the game was running fine for 3 days.  i reinstalled the 258.xx drivers.  I just had the stutter and clockspeed reset about 10 min ago.  same place in my GH.  had to reboot my computer to make my clocks go back to normal.

This is becoming very troublesome.

Judging from the information you've provided, your graphics card may be overheating.  As a safety precaution your system may down clock your graphics card if it gets too hot to prevent any possible damage to it.  What kind of temps are you seeing when playing the game, especially when going into your Guild Hall.

48-57c  smack in the middle of the green for my card.

on another note many other people i know who use Nvidia cards are having the same problems.  Driver crashing.  underclocking.  screen going black.

I doubt its a problem with our cards.
