![]() It only takes a few days with logging enabled, to hit 300-500MB of text in a log file, especially for raiders. Out of habit, I periodically go into my logs folder and delete any excess log files, but not everyone is inclined (or knows how) to do such. I am sure many people have no problems, but some people are not good with using my computer or windows explorer to track down eq2 log file folders. There has been several occasions when I was helping someone with an ACT or GC issue, and we find out they have rediculous amounts of log data in their EQ2 folder. One person had 32 gigs, which is more than the entire instal of EQ2 itself. They were also having HDD capacity issues (was a slightly older machine with a 200 gig HDD). There is almost no feasible way for this to be a good thing. My idea for SOE, is that they implement a culling mechanism to keep the size of the logs folder under a certain limit, unless the player makes the choice to disable log file culling. The size limit could be player adjustable, and start by culling when it reaches 2GB of data. This would include the accumulative total of all log files across all servers, and if the limit is exceeded, it will remove oldest data down to a point of say, half the limit (1GB by default), and keep the most recent half of log file activity.

![]() Turn logging off, problem solved. Or monitor it yourself, this would be a complete waste of dev time. |

![]() Or tell ACT to make a new file everyday (you can tell act to make a new file after size to). The options for this are on the last tab of act. |

![]() I believe ACT has some options to truncate/rename log files after they reach a certain size or date range. |

![]() If these people don't even know where the log files are, then surely they aren't making any use of them? So just turning logging off completely solves the problem. |

Oh hell no. Under no circumstances should the default be for the game to delete my data. If it's opt-in, it's a feature, so be it. (Although it's still a waste of devs time). There should never be a case where I enabled logging, but then the game throws some of it away, because on that toon, computer, account, etc.. - I forgot to disable some unnecessary automatic deletion. But if I turn on log files, it's because I (shocking, I know) - WANT log files. -Ken |

Ohhh, that's what's happening. I was wondering why I was getting new log files every couple of days, while my friend has one giant log file for each character. |

Yup. About Tab, in the Log File section. There's a field for: Attempt to split the log file every xx MB. -Ken |

There's an action required to turn logging on. An individual coming back later and complaining about the log file that they turned on being too large is laughable. Don't turn on a log file unless you actually do something with the log. That includes maintaining it so that it's file size doesn't get out of control.

![]() Unless people are planning on putting their logs on an SSD (in which case they should consider using a directory junction off to more old fashioned storage) this is really a non-issue. |

![]() [Removed for Content] at these responses... Shortsighted much? The entire point of the post is to KEEP logs on. If you took the time to read and comprehend it, then you would not post "turn it off, har har lawlsauce im to cool to read kid" puh-lease. I agree 100% with the OP. Sometimes a raider will pull a mob for hours/days and need to compile log files. Maybe they don't run ACT while they raid. Or GC. Maybe they just run the logs and load ACT later to parse the data and sort out certain elements. By having the GAME, in this case, that MAKES the files, there should be a way to have the GAME chop this file size and purged (if selected) - Having or suggesting to use a 3rd party (widely used, and legal) but nonetheless having another program do this instead is pretty ridiculous. "Hey Bob, how many times did you get hit with X aoe from Y mob on Tuesday night when we pulled it for 4 hours?" That question is enough to garner interest of this mechanic to be implemented.
