Syndares brought up this topic on the Tinkerfest test thread (see here), and has a very good point.

The particle effect from it is very difficult to see (I'm on extreme quality graphics with some customized options). I had to really get close to the monitor and squint to discern some of them. The "trail" it leaves is barely noticable at all.. it took me quite a while to even realize that there was a trail.

It's a cool item, but considering that it takes a year to get if you don't miss any holiday events, it's a tad disappointing. I'd like to see the particle effects be more obvious. I'd also really love it more if it could be changed into a house item that alternates itself between the effects.

edit: For the curious, here's a link with pics of the particle effects.

I agree with the disappointment on the item.

I was hoping for either a Permanent Port to Frostfell or a Frostfell Crafting Device.

It's a Candy Cane Icon!  Frostfell is the most annoying of all Holiday Events 'cause you can't craft the recipes all year.

The particle effect just relegates the item to my bank.  Never to see the light of day after the 1st day of play.

Its a nice idea they just need to increase the size or intensity of the particle effect.   However the port to frostfell is an awsome idea!

Does the effect from this overwrite other particle effects, such as the pixie on a string or the different glowy fists?

There is no way to create an item that *everyone* would want and use.  For every person who doesn't like the particle effect, there's someone who will get use out of it.  I'm sorry you don't like it and aren't going to use it, but I think it's kinda neat.

In any case, the item needs to say what it does. You should be able to see right from the achievements tab that all it will do is give a particle effect, just put that in the description: "This item will allow the caster to apply a holiday-themed effect while they walk"

Not knowing what it does is what sets people up for disappointment far more than what it actually does.

Nothing wrong with surprises now and then.  Remember at launch when you didn't know what the reward was from a quest until you completed it?

Anyway, I can't imagine this is going to change anyone's behavior any.  I certainly hope no one was participating in the events just for the sake of getting an unknown reward.

My main complaint isn't so much this, so much as the particles are really tiny.

Heyya everyone!

Congratulations on attaining the Bauble of Holidays Past!  Though, I am sorry to hear that you were a bit disappointed with the size of the particles at your feet.  The good news is that our marvelous fx artist has sized them up.  At the same time the description of the item has been changed to read, "This festive bauble will allow the caster to apply a holiday-themed effect while they walk, no matter what time of year it may be!"  Unfortunately though, due to this being an art issue, the changes will not be live until GU57.  But it is coming!  Hopefully, these two changes help to resolve the issues.

Is the description change also not going in until GU57, or could it be hotfixed in before the next Tinkerfest since it should be (to my knowledge) separable from the art change? And thanks for the changes =)
