Is the pet affected by threat reduction buffs?

Buffs like Alin's Serene Serenade (troubador) reduces the amount of hate for all non-fighters in the troubador's group.

The question is if the fighter pet is out, does the pet get the threat reduction or is he treated as a fighter ?

The pet isn't "treated" as a Fighter, he *is* a Fighter.  All of your pets have an actual "class".  Our Mage pet is a Wizard, our Scout pet used to alternate between Ranger and Swashy, not sure what he is this tier.  I don't remember what class our Tank pet is, I want to say he's a Guardian.
