No clue whats going on... need help...mss32.dll problem?

Ok, im having a very odd issue with the game. first off, i have a eq2 shrotcut and plain eq2 set on my desktop that let me play the game but send it to regular UI (i usually use profit, and im trying to get it to work again). i also have a eq2 shortcut that opens as profit ui but it says i need to rerun patcher. when i search for eq2.exe in my folders, i run the onle EQ2 that pops up and it seems completely different than the one on the dekstop(as it needs to be updated serperately). when i run that one i get an error that its missing the mss32.dll file and i should try to reinstall (does not happen with desktop version)... ive searched around a bit as to the answer for the mss32.dll, tried all the suggestions like delete it and run a full file scan... nothing worked. ive tried a lot of different things but i cant figure out why its not working. I use windows 7 too.
