If you're thinking of doing melee dps then go Inquis. Templars are mostly spells with melee auto attacks in-between, while Inquis get melee ca versions of their spells.

Both Clerics are melee dps, a Templar will have auto-attack as the highest dmg if you are doing it right. Use a good 2 hander with a high dmg spread i.e. 125 - 1100 and get your crits up to 100%.

How can you get your crit chance up to 100% with items? Pact of the faithful was changed from crit. Now it just makes it do more damage rather than giving you a crit chance.

It's a good combination actually, things to know/remember:

SK's are good at dealing AE damage, and can even do a good chunk of self-healing with all their lifetaps

Templars are good at buffing and large direct heals

What this means is without much trouble your duo will be able to whittle down just about everything you find outside of an instance. However, there won't be a lot of healing for you to do on your average outdoor quest, your buffs, the SK's lifetaps and the occasional reactive heal will pretty much get the job done without much effort.

So I would say it would be wise to consider your DPS as you level up, putting points in the STA and INT lines of the Cleric AA branch and getting your melee damage and casting speed up. The end line abilities for these branches: Divine Recovery and Divine Aura both make for handy utility spells while levelling.

Final notes since it sounds like you might be new to Templars, esp when working with an SK, remember to cast your reactive buff before the SK pulls the room, and make friends with the Harmony spell, with an AE tank, it'll save your life more than you can think.
