HI all.  After having a baby in 05 and triplets 2 years ago, I've finally managed to get enough of a routine to start playing MMos again.  I recently started DDo but found it too limited.   I had a 28 coercer back in the early days of EQ2 but just after I quit, I heard they changed the game a lot.  I have a few simple questions to verify if I want to play this game and if I do, if I want to play a coercer.

Are we still vital for crowd control?  Mezzing and stuff?

Do we still dispence caster crack?

Do we still haste melee guys?

I took great pride in playing a coercer well and always got tells as soon as I logged on to join a group.  But I heard that they nerfed the classes so that all of them can solo/and or fill multiple roles in a group.  If I wanted that, I'd play WoW.   Can anyone shed some light?  I'm really feeling an urge to play this, but dont want a ruined watered down version of the game.   Thx a lot.

Coercers still do great crowd control

They can help fighters keep hate and increase DPS

They do a good job of increasing healing rate

They are also great fun to play... of all my alts my coercer is the one I enjoy most.

The addition of AA allows you to focus on which ever element of coercer you enjoy most

I guess my main question is this:   Are all 3 of those coercer funtions still desired by groups or has the game changed to the extent that they are no longer necessary for a great group?

Coercer = buff's and DPS..  There really is no reason to mezz anything in this game anymore.  Most "great" groups are going to have an illy or coercer, a bard of some sort(or 2 for real uber grps), tank(who am I joking... an SK), healer, and a T1 dps.

Buffs:  Velocity(98dps mod@m1 w/AA)...  Coercive Healing(15% casting speed and heal effectiveness).... Some INT buff...Incombat power stuff blah blah blah..  Oh and 22% hate xfer at M1 Enraging Demeanor w/AA...

Coercer's don't offer 'caster crack', Illusionist has that buff (time compression), and they have the 'haste' buff (Rapidity).. As Carthrax wrote, we buff melee with a DPS mod, we have an AA that buffs healing, and the hate increaser plus transfer (Enraging Demeanor) . Plus we 'power heal', Manaflow, Mind's Eye, Breeze, Consuming Thoughts, and the emergency button of Channel. We have a whole AA line dedicated to 'power feeding'. The continuing issue is that chanter's no longer provide 'crowd control' (at level cap) as the majority of nameds are IMMUNE to stuns, stifles, daze, mezz, etc... But, at the end of the day. We will always be wanted in groups/raids...
