This error is usually caused by the security features in Vista/Win7 blocking the game from updating.  If you're using one of those operating systems, please perform these steps first:

1. Right click on the program launch icon2. Left click on "Properties".3. In the new window that pops up click on the "Compatibility" tab.4. Under "Privilege Level" make certain that the box next to "Run this program as administrator" is checked.5. Click on "Apply" then click on "Ok".6. Right click on the icon and select "Run as Administrator"

Let us know if the problem persists at that point.

That did not work unfortunatly. I have no anti virus either, so i know nothing is blocking it from updating.

I tried this and it didn't work. I have windows 7.  The issue was solved by running the launcher in Windows XP compatibility mode. SMILEY Try and see if it works for you too.

Unfortunately that did not work either. I have Windows 7 as well, what XP service pack did you run it as?

I right clicked on the launcher and chose "Troubleshoot compatibility" and the computer chose Windows XP...it was Service Pack 2.  Sorry its not working for you, I am sure its annoying! I was quite fed up myself.
